Soccer fans, we are less than a few weeks away from seeing the return of the English Premier League!
Finally, it is time to start talking about the Premier League 2021/2022 and the season coming up. In less than a couple weeks, we are going to be seeing how some of the teams will look for the first after a very busy offseason this summer.
So, with that in mind, what are some of the teams to follow in the Premier league 2021/2022 season? Let’s take a look.
Manchester United – 2021/2022 Season
First of, this is a team that finished the 2020/2021 season in 2nd place last year, and let’s not forget the fact that the fanbase got what they wanted. Yes, they got to see Ed Woodward finally say goodbye to his position after the turmoil caused by the thought of the European Super League. Remember that catastrophe?
United in this offseason got right to work. They managed to finally work out a deal that would bring Jadon Sancho to their team. Sancho’s addition is a huge helping hand in the midfield for Bruno Fernandes and creates problems for any defense dealing with United’s offense.
Manchester is also just days away from announcing their newest Center-back, Raphael Varane as he follows COVID protocol and completes his medical exams. Could this be the year United finally wins again? Should wait and see, they are definitely contenders with the team they have though.
The Blues are expected to have yet another incredible season.
N’golo Kante and Thomas Tuchel are going to be quite the duo to watch out for this year. However, Chelsea could become extremely dangerous this year. The Blues are currently making moves as they sold Olivier Girourd to AC Milan. Now, the rumors are they could be moving on from Tammy Abraham as Arsenal grows interest on the player. So, should Chelsea do that, could they be bringing Haaland to London?
Imagine the lethal threat of Haaland, Werner and Havertz for Chelsea?
Arsenal – Arteta’s Last Chance?
Now here is a club that we all can agree needed to get something going this offseason.
Arsenal has been lacking some creativity for a bit now since Wenger left. I can’t quite be harsh about this considering replacing him is a tall task to manage. However, Arteta has been doing the necessary to keep this team afloat but some things aren’t working yet. For starters, this year started off in the wrong foot as they let Martin Oodergaard go back to Spain even as the player wanted to stay. Frankly, that was something that didn’t make any sense to me.
Speed forward to today, it seems Arteta is starting to realize that without the creativity from Oodergaard, it is necessary to keep certain aspects in the club. In example, Arsenal today announced they will be keeping Granit Xhaka even as offers poured from Roma who had severe interest in his services.
Arsenal in this offseason has signed Ben White, Tavares and Sambi. Now, they need to find a way to make the bigger rumor happen and that is getting James Madison onto this squad. Should Arsenal manage to make it happen, they are a team worth keeping an eye on and following!
Fun Premier League Storylines to Follow!
Lastly, there are some great story lines to follow that add to the topic of conversation.
One of the first story lines to talk about is the return of Van Djik in Liverpool. Virgil’s season last year was ended due to horrible ACL injury suffered, now we will get to see him return. With Van Djik back, it gives a lot of power to Liverpool in the aerial game but also defensively where the struggle was real last season. I am excited to see him back and I will say, do not sleep on Liverpool.
Some additional storylines to follow are Tottenham and Everton. The Premier league 2021/2022 season now also has a two teams with two new coaches!
For starters, Everton! Who would’ve thought that Carlo Ancelotti would’ve left this team? The shock was incredible but now with Rafa Benitez at the helm, it is difficult to know what the expectations should be. Yet, a team that many should follow and keep an eye on. Who knows, they could literally be a great team this year if coached correctly and the signing of Denzel Dumfries happens. Everton, you still have time to make it happen!
Lastly, Tottenham! I remember mentioning last year that the end of Mourinho at White Lane was inevitable. Simply, Mourinho was just not the coach this team and destroyed great talent that then created chaos for a team that was poised for success. You can’t tell me that the form drop of players like Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Davinson Sanchez didn’t absolutely kill this team altogether. Now, instead of harping on the past, they have a coach with a fire in his eyes in Nuno Espirito Santo. Nuno has also brought fresh legs to this team and they could be a fun one to watch develop this season.
Some of those new signings are the following: Pierluigi Gollini (GK), Bryan Gil and Alfie Devine.
Can’t wait for the EPL to start, that’s all I know!
