Welcome to another edition of Saturday pick threes! The past few Saturday’s, I’ve been doing some scenarios in which nine options are given and I pick the best three. They have been all across the board. We’ve had sauces and New England restaurants. There was also building your ideal tailgate meal and watching sitcoms which were fun. Today, we’re going to comedy movies for some debate!
You can only keep 3 of these comedies… pic.twitter.com/oQZSGAdeHX

So the movies are now on the board. Which ones make my list? What movies just missed making the cut? Are there any that just flat out don’t do it for me? Let’s dive in!
Superbad: IN
Superbad is arguably my second favorite movie of all time. The plot is relatable to a high school kid. Sure, it endorses underage drinking. But honestly, who hasn’t done/thought about drinking a beer under the age of 21? Don’t answer that. Evan and Seth are a tag team that comedy movies love to see. And of course, who can forget about Fogle McLovin’? The cast besides the main characters are a slam dunk as well. Emma Stone as Jules? WIN! Bill Hader as Officer Slater? Another win! Seth Rogen as Officer Michaels? You get the point. Plus, let’s not forget that Becca and Nicola were two girls that teenagers easily had crushes on as well. Overall, just a great movie!
Caddyshack: OUT
I’m out on Caddyshack. It was a film way before my time. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve heard great things about the movie itself. It was just never for me. Maybe if I watch it again, I could change my mind. But for now, I have to do away with Caddyshack.
Anchorman: Honorable Mention
This was so tough to leave off of the list. Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy will never not be funny. Ron Burgundy feels the threat of a female reporter. Of course, they end up falling in love and marrying each other. The slight stupidity of Burgundy in the movie makes for a night of constant laughing. However, it just misses the cut due to some classics being on here that I just couldn’t pass up on.
Bridesmaids: OUT
There’s a lot going on in this movie. I get it. The mid-30’s single woman who wants love in her life. She’s helping out with a friend’s wedding. It could make for a funny movie. I don’t know though. The plot seems a little cheesy for my liking. It has its moments. But at the end of the day, it’s not a movie that I’m staying up late for to make sure I watch. Bridesmaids is the second definite OUT for me here.
Step Brothers: IN
Step Brothers will forever be my favorite movie of all time. The quotable lines in this movie are endless. I still use them to this day. “Did we just become best friends?” “Yep!” “You wanna go do karate in the garage? “Yep!” It’s great to see Will Farrell and John C. Reilly unite to make two losers turn into two step-brothers with a successful karaoke business. The Catalina Wine Mixer, Derek falling out of the tree house, and the job interviews are just a few more scenes that make this movie legendary. I will NEVER get tired of watching this movie, plain and simple.
Billy Madison: IN
Another movie that is an all time classic for me. Adam Sandler stars as Billy Madison, the lazy son of a millionaire who goes back to school to take over the father’s company. Along the way, he runs into Veronica Vaughn, the attractive third grade teacher. This is just another movie that has all-time great scenes. The chase with the penguin, the numerous interactions with Vaughn, the bus driver and Billy’s two slacker friends stealing kids’ lunches, and many more make the movie that much better. “Billy Madison” is a two thumbs up from me every time.
The 40 Year-Old Virgin: Honorable Mention
“The 40 Year-Old Virgin” is funny, don’t get me wrong. Another strong cast in this movie as well. Steve Carrell, Kevin Hart as a minor character, Paul Rudd, and Seth Rogen are in it just to start. It has some good scenes, eventually leading to Carrell’s character Andy to finally losing his virginity to Trish. It’s a solid option, but not an option to crack into the top three. This one gets an honorable mention from yours truly.
21 Jump Street: Honorable Mention
Another tough one to keep out of the top three. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill work really well together. Two cops who pose as high school students to take down a big sting? Yeah, sign me up for that. There’s a few elements for me that make it an honorable mention for me. Jonah Hill’s character falling in love with a high school girl? Yeah, no thanks. Dave Franco’s character? Classic scumbag and a guy I didn’t care for too much. All in all, still a solid movie I would watch again. “21 Jump Street” gets the honorable mention from me.
Coming to America: OUT
Eddie Murphy is a fantastic actor and comedian. This movie “Coming to America” is a good one. The prince that goes to New York City to find his true love? It’s a good story line. It just doesn’t match up to the strength of these other movies. If I watch it again, it might rise to an honorable mention. But for now, this one goes straight to the OUT category.
In Conclusion
My three from this list is Step Brothers, Billy Madison, and Superbad, in that order. What’s yours? Tweet me your results or tweet them to the Couch Guy Sports twitter page @CouchGuySports. Enjoy your weekend!
