Couch Guy Reviews: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is the new science fiction blockbuster. It is the sequel to 2015’s Jurassic World and the 5th movie in the Jurassic Park franchise. The film is directed by J. A. Bayona and stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, James Cromwell, Toby Jones, B.D. Wong, and Jeff Goldblum. This film has gotten mixed reviews so here’s my two cents on the new blockbuster.
So this movie isn’t terrible but it certainty isn’t great either. As you see in the trailer below, the island in which the dinosaurs live on has a volcano that is blowing up. So Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard have to go in and save the remaining dinosaurs. I liked that aspect for the most part but it was everything after that I didn’t really care for. But we’ll get to that later. The one real positive to this movie is Chris Pratt. There’s a reason he’s one of the biggest movie stars in the world and he shines here once again. The dude just carries charisma and the comedy is on point when he’s on screen. The other positive is that there are a lot of fricking dinosaurs and that’s a lot of fun.
However, there were a lot of problems that I had with the movie in general. First off, they did a complete 180 on Howard’s character to the point that I called bullshit. Trust me, watch the first one then this and tell me you don’t think the same thing. Another thing that didn’t work was the comedy outside of Pratt. The movie has these two new side characters they try use as comic relief but it come off as annoying as fuck. Didn’t really care if they died or not. But this the major problem I had is that it kept repeating itself.
Now I don’t mean that this movie repeated itself, but what I do mean is that it took storylines from other Jurassic Park movies and recycled it here. That’s why I liked the first half of this movie because it was new and different. But the 2nd half was dull and predictable. In conclusion, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a fun monster movie and it had moments of greatness. But the 2nd half really stumbles to keep it from being great. I think you guys should give it a shot but don’t expect anything to amazing. Watching this buzzed could be a lot of fun though.
