Michael Chavis hits his first home run as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates

Michael Chavis is already making an impact for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The former Red Sox prospect hit his first career home run with the Pirates on Tuesday night. Chavis’ home run came in the third inning off of Diamondbacks left-hander Madison Bumgarner.

Chavis was acquired by the Pirates at the trade deadline for lefty Austin Davis. The former first rounder hit .234 in three seasons with the Red Sox. He mashed 18 home runs during that span with 58 RBIs. At the time of the trade, Chavis was hitting a putrid .190 in 31 games for Boston.

“I was hungry for an opportunity to play. That situation over there in Boston, I just didn’t get a lot of opportunities this year, given the scenario that we had. It’s nothing against them. It’s nothing against myself, it’s just how the situation unfolded.”

Chavis is now getting his opportunities with Pittsburgh after hitting .246 with five home runs while in Indianapolis.
