Buffalo Bills First Quarter Season Recap
With the first quarter of the NFL season in the books, the Buffalo Bills are 3-1 and are sitting in first place in the AFC East. After each quarter of the season, I will give a recap and a report card for the team during the span of games played. Week 5 is officially here and here is my first quarter recap along with a report card for the Bills.
Starting off Slow

After an amazing 2020 season, the Bills were hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers to kick off the 2021 season. Everyone thought Buffalo would pick up right where they left off from last season. Well, the Bills lost to the Steelers and started the season 0-1. All of that excitement and having a full capacity in the stadium ruined by the Steelers. It was a tough way to start the season but the team didn’t hit the panic button despite some of the fanbase overreacting.
Rebounding Against a Divisional Rival

Buffalo would head down to Miami to try and rebound against the Dolphins. I was confident the team would play much better and bounce back against a divisional rival and they did just that. Even though quarterback Josh Allen was spectacular, the main story about this game was the Bills defense. They made life miserable for Tua Tagovailoa and Jacoby Brissett, who came in relief for Tua after he unfortunately got hurt. Buffalo would blowout Miami and shut them out in what was a great bounce back win.
Sending a Message

To close out the first quarter of the season, Buffalo would return home for two games. First up, they battled the Washington Football Team. The title of this section is accurate, the Bills sent a message. They scored over 40 points and the defense balled out once again. Not only did the defense and Allen play well, but wide receivers Cole Beasley and Emmanuel Sanders played really well. Buffalo started the game winning 21-0 and despite being 21-14 shortly after, the Bills wouldn’t look back and would beat Washington easily.
Redemption for 2019

To wrap up the first quarter of the season, Buffalo would host the Houston Texans in what would be a very rainy day in Orchard Park. After throwing an interception on the first pass of the day for Buffalo, Allen and the Bills would absolutely obliterate the Texans in a shutout victory. I know Houston is in a rebuilding process but that victory felt good for me personally because in the 2019 wild card game, Houston eliminated Buffalo from the playoffs. Yes, I know the Texans don’t have most of the players they had in 2019 but it still felt good to get redemption in a blowout.
Report Card

For the first quarter report card, I am giving the Bills a A-. Other than the Steelers game, there really isn’t that much to be unhappy with. The defense has been spectacular, Allen and the offense are starting to find themselves and they are in good shape as of now. The team will kick off their second quarter of the season as they will head to Kansas City for a battle of the AFC championship game last year with the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.
