This feels so good to write about again. It’s finally game week as the reigning AFC East division champions Buffalo Bills will host the reigning AFC North division champions Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday. It’s the third year in a row these two teams have met. During the last two years, Buffalo has won both meetings. With that being said, I’m going to give you three things to keep an eye on during Sunday’s game between the Steelers vs. Bills.
Josh vs. Big Ben
Two gunslingers will be facing off this weekend. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Bills quarterback Josh Allen will be seeing each other once again. According to Pro Football Reference, Allen was 24/43, throwing for 238 yards, threw 2 touchdowns and 1 interception in last year’s matchup. Roethlisberger went 21/37, recording 187 yards while throwing 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in a 26-15 Bills victory. I’m really interested to see what happens this year. It’s a new season and I’m sure both men are looking to start the year off right, especially Roethlisberger after collapsing at the end of the regular season last year and losing in the first round despite being 11-0.
Containing T.J. Watt
During the last couple of days, it looked like T.J. Watt would not be playing this weekend because of some back and forth with the Steelers on a new contract. Today at practice though, Watt was a full participant and all signs point to him playing on Sunday. During the game last season, Watt was a force to be reckon with. During the first half, the Bills offense couldn’t do anything. The second half was a different story but the Bills need to be able to contain Watt. Whether it’s a quick route or having a running back run the ball wherever he isn’t, Buffalo needs to have a gameplan to make sure T.J. doesn’t do what he did in the first half last season.
First Look at Najee Harris
The last thing to keep an eye on is the debut of Steelers running back Najee Harris. He was Pittsburgh’s first round pick from this year’s draft and the Bills will be his first meaningful test. The Steelers offense is good and I think Najee will make it better. Buffalo’s defense wasn’t as good as it was during the last few years, especially the running defense. With that being said, this will be a good test for the Bills defense. It’ll be interesting to see how Harris does in his first NFL game and as for the Bills, it’s a great test to start the season.
It is so great to have football back again and for me, it feels so good doing these kind or articles. You can catch the game @1pm on Sunday on CBS.
