The Bachelor Episode 6 Recap

The sixth episode of The Bachelor entered new and unknown territory for all of us. It was the first time in 2021 that Victoria didn’t assault our television screens with the fact that she exists.

This episode still however had quite a bit to offer. Ups and downs, highs and lows, happiness and sadness.

We say goodbye to good friends and not so good friends. And say hello to what I think is a legit crazy person.

Will the Real MJ Please Stand Up

I mean it’s a play on Michael Jordan, Matt James and MJ herself. Who apparently her name is Meredith.

Good call going with MJ as your working title. Although I have a friend who has a thing for girls with older sounding names. So he would probably prefer to call her Meredith.

This is drama that boiled over from last week as the rest of the house attempts to rid themselves of all the mean girls and MJ is the last one standing.

She had been super proud of her terrible “Varsity Squad” nick name. Until Anna and Victoria got the boot. Then all of a sudden she always considered herself the Mother Teresa of the house. Preaching peace and harmony.

Only problem with that is this is a TV show where they literally record EVERYTHING.

So Jessenia calls MJ out about it, MJ lies to Matt, this leads to drama and a two on one date before the rose ceremony.

One of the allegations against MJ was that she is different people. One alone in the house with the girls, one on camera, and one with Matt. Although this is not an earth shattering reveal for a reality TV show.

And we get a full display of exactly that. MJ breaks down crying because of the stress of her lie. She then tells the camera that she had a moment of weakness, and that “bad bitch” MJ is back. Peace and harmony remember?

And then with Matt, here comes the waterworks and how she loves him so much, blah blah blah.

Luckily for us, Matt sees right through it, and sends MJ home.

Finally a ray of sunshine bursts through the dark storm clouds and shines down upon us.

Rose Ceremony

But this leads us to the main drama of the night.

So apparently the two on one date was just emotionally exhausting on Matt. The rest of the girls, are talking about how things will finally get back to normal, which is like the kiss of death for a normal evening.

I think Matt’s stamina was A-okay but the producers needed to stir the pot. Keep these ladies on their toes. And not a terrible idea on their part since this group cannot handle adversity very well.

One of those poor adversity handlers is Serena. Who immediately takes out her frustrations on our true queen, Katie. Claiming that she started this entire drama by telling Matt about the toxic energy in the house.

To which, Katie, the girls and America are confused as hell as to what the problem really is.

So bring on the rose ceremony. We get shots of girls crying about not having any time.

At one point one of the girls who got a rose happily said “Those tears were nothing”

Which honestly is the entire working thesis of this show. 99% of the tears cried mean literally nothing at all.

The producers make us wait in suspense to see if Serena or Katie get a rose, they’re the last two to get one.

Which means we say goodbye to Ryan, a newby who was bawling her eyes out because she already loves Matt. No sweetie you don’t but nice try.

Brittany who was just unfortunately intermingled with drama as soon as Anna opened her mouth of 20,000 teeth.

And a salute to Magi. Literally the only screen time she got to remind you that she was there was when she could not navigate a pumpkin and when she silently and super awkwardly watched Matt dance in silence.

Thank You For Your Feedback

Lead into the following day. Serena confronts Katie about the entire situation from the night before since both survived which was a terrible idea.

For starters, we have already seen that Katie is a skilled debater and pretty mature she will not back down to someone because of tears.

What’s funny is both girls believe they are getting an apology from the other.

Serena has her facts all wrong, as she believes Katie threw the other girls under the bus. To which Katie truthfully reveals that she did not name names, that she simply brought up the issue to Matt and those girls revealed their own mistakes.

And Serena from that point on had no legs to stand on and her argument fell apart as fast as she put it together.

The highlight was Katie telling her that she was talking in circles which meant the conversation was over and as she put it “Thank you for your feedback” and walked away.

The hand gesture just puts it over the top too. She understands showmanship.

If I learn any lesson from this season, it’s that you do not want to get into a verbal sparring match with Katie. She will end you. I believe her occupation is a bank manager, but she should consider becoming a lawyer because damn.

Now after being verbally eviscerated like that an individual may do one of two things. The respectable thing would be to realize you’re wrong/beaten and keep your mouth shut.

The second is what Serena does. Immediately run to the other girls first and create a narrative that fits your side of thinking.

She immediately starts talking about how Katie wasn’t making any sense, how she wouldn’t own up to what she did, how she’s just insecure about not progressing her relationship with Matt. Sometimes it’s funny how people actually air their own insecurities while lying.

And here’s how you know Serena know’s she’s in the wrong. Katie follows her about 2 minutes later and as Serena loudly for anyone to hear is going on about how Katie sucks, Katie herself walks around the corner and Serena immediately goes silent and does the “Oh crap, hey she’s here everyone shut up.”

To which again, Katie has the perfect response “You don’t have to whisper.”

Flawless.

So Katie asks what Serena has been saying and basically Serena changes her entire story now that Katie is actually there.

So it would seem we have a new villain, this show just makes new ones out of thin air it’s incredible!

Tyler C

So past Bachelorette constestant and fan favorite and former Wake Forest quarterback Tyler C joins the show. He’s also Matt James’ best friend in the whole wide world.

To be honest this is just fan service. I didn’t see the season Tyler was on so I don’t have any prior knowledge of the dude and don’t have much to say about it.

But people loved it, so wooh!

No Clue Who This is Either

Here’s another blast from the past apparently in Heather Martin. No clue what season she was on, again I literally started watching this show during Pilot Pete’s season.

She randomly shows up, is apparently friends with Hannah Brown and wants to meet Matt because apparently he is exactly what she’s looking for in a man.

Chris Harrison is surprised and shocked (sure he is) and says he needs to have some lengthy discussions about letting her in or not.

Basically in this age of COVID, it means get tested and quarantine.

Which leads us to quick clips now and then of her in quarantine where she takes a shot at a career in vlogging. And she’s terrible at it.

The clip that stood out to me is where she is calling for Matt out a window, making literally only herself laugh. The way she looks and the way she calls his name was so incredibly creepy for me. It was like a horror movie when the person is hiding from the villain who’s trying to murder them and they call out their name looking for them.

This is terrifying to me.

So Heather “quarantines” for like two days I think before being invited to the following rose ceremony. Where she drives her damn self in the same mini van she rolled up in just earlier that week.

Highlight of the whole episode was Heather driving herself in a mini van while wearing an elegant ball room gown to meet Matt.

My wife thought this was funny. How her foot didn’t at all fit into th

So she shows up, after all the girls were thinking that things finally would be getting back to normal. HA.

She interrupts Pieper’s conversation with Matt who just laughs like a maniac about it. And it sends the girls into a tail spin because she’s there. That’s how the episode ended, on a cliff hanger so we will see more about Heather next week.

Goodbye to Our Queen

After the Serena drama Katie finally gets what she’s been waiting for this entire time a one on one date with Matt.

While she doesn’t get any red bottoms or hot air balloon rides, she gets a date that Matt hand picked her for. She gets to “Practical Jokers” Tyler C while he gets a massage.

Matt goes on and on about how it was such a fun date and that he wouldn’t have done this one with anyone but Katie because she’s a ton of fun to be around.

But I had an uneasy feeling about this date from the start and the clips that we kept hearing.

We learned this on the last Bachelorette with Tayshia. Sometimes the fun date, doesn’t equal the best results for the contestant.

If you remember that season, Eazy was the Katie of the group, a fan favorite. He got a date with Tayshia where he went through a haunted scavenger hunt with her. They laughed and had a ton of fun. Until Tayshia ripped his heart out at dinner and said that while he is a great guy, she just doesn’t see him as a romantic partner.

Same goes for Katie unfortunately.

And it sucks but it makes sense. We never saw deep conversations between Matt and Katie. She was known more for being the voice of reason in the house rather than her progress with Matt. She was our beacon of hope that there was a good person who would stand up to the mean girls.

Even during dinner she went out of her way to tell Matt, that while all the other girls look to him for reassurance, she wanted to give him that same feeling and tell him that he’s doing a good job as the bachelor.

Matt picks up the rose for some reason, which come on stop making them pick up the rose. Let them dump these people without giving them hope.

And he tells Katie that she’s a wonderful woman, and a joy to be around, but their relationship just hasn’t progressed the same as the other women.

He walks Katie out, she doesn’t cry, she doesn’t bad mouth anyone on her way out she goes out with class and civility just like we’ve always known her.

She elegantly puts it “You start painting your future with them, only for it to be erased.”

I predicted this weeks ago, I said she wouldn’t win it, and it would hurt to watch her leave. But that she was too good, too mature to win this show.

I salute you and raise my glass to you Katie. Thank you for being the lone bright spot for weeks among the dark shadow that Victoria and others created.

Katie for Next Bachelorette?

I saw plenty of tweets about people wanting or expecting Katie to be the next bachelorette.

Seems like an obvious slam dunk choice. And in a perfect world it would. I would be 100% all about it if she were chosen as the next one.

But I don’t see Katie being the next bachelorette. I think she’s simply too mature for it. I know the show could certainly use some maturity and it was awesome to see Tayshia put men in their place when it was needed but Katie is also confortable with herself and knows what she wants in life. And I’m not sure being the bachelorette is that.

But what do I know it’s not like I know her personally.

If she doesn’t end up being the new bachelorette I will be excited to see her take on the mean girls at the tell all.

Episode Winner: Michelle

I gotta give Michelle the episode winner title. During the group date the girls went bowling and she dominated the game.

At the following cocktail party, she got the rose.

And she is the last of the new girls still standing. The rest were sent home. Michelle is in a strong position as we near the home stretch.

Episode Loser: Serena

Rough look this week for Serena, she didn’t get time with Matt and took her anger out on probably the last person you want to verbally spar with in Katie. Who put Serena in her place.

Serena got stuck on the group date, and seems like she’s easily on the chopping block come this upcoming rose ceremony.

She also lost by unanimous decision in the court of public opinion. I didn’t see a single tweet in her favor. Bad place to be when America hates you.

Next Week

What a surprise the girls don’t take to Heather being thrown into the mix very well. Who would have guessed that.

I can’t believe that we are nearing the so called home stretch and haven’t yet gotten to the clip where Matt says to Chris Harrison that he is in fact “not okay.”

So still plenty to check out here, does Heather stick around? Do things fall apart on Matt? How many more pointless tears are left (countless).
