Red Sox place RHP Nick Pivetta on the COVID-19 IL, club selects Kutter Crawford from Triple-A WooSox
Unfortunately the COVID-19 issue is still lingering in the Red Sox clubhouse. The club has announced right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta has landed on the COVID-19 related injured list and will recall righty Kutter Crawford to take his place on the roster.
The #RedSox today placed RHP Nick Pivetta on the COVID-19 Related Injured List.
To fill Pivetta’s spot on the active major league roster, the Red Sox selected RHP Kutter Crawford from Triple-A Worcester. Crawford will start today’s game against Cleveland.

Crawford will also start the series finale against the Indians on Sunday.
Nick Pivetta’s second stint on the COVID-IL
Pivetta has made 26 starts this season and owns a 9-7 record with a 4.67 ERA. The righty has 151 strikeouts, a 1.341 WHIP over 135 innings of work.
The 28-year-old already spent time on the COVID-19 related injured list earlier this season. Pivetta spent time on the IL after being vaccinated.
Kutter Crawford makes his debut
The righty Crawford will make his big league debut on Sunday. Crawford has dealt with many ups and Downs to get to this point. He had Tommy John surgery back in 2019.
The WooSox scratched Crawford from his last start. Boston wanted to have Crawford and Connor Seabold available as contingency plans if more COVID issues arise.
Nick Pivetta was placed on the COVID-IL as a precaution due to an inconclusive test result, could be back tomorrow if he’s negative later today.

Kutter Crawford looks to help the Sox sweep Cleveland
The 25-year-old is ranked as the Red Sox No. 22 prospect according to Baseball America. Additionally he also ranks 11th among pitchers in the organization.
The young righty has made 15 starts plus a relief appearance this year between Portland and the WooSox.
In 16 games in the minors this season, he is 5-5 with 4.16 ERA over 75 innings. The hurler features a solid fastball to go with a cutter, curveball, and changeup.
Kutter Crawford will look to help the Sox sweep the Indians from Fenway Park on Sunday in place of Nick Pivetta.
