NFL Week 8 Power Rankings: Bengals Make Statement, Chiefs Fall Hard
We are through 7 weeks of NFL Power Rankings. There have been surprises and disappointment up to this point. Maybe the biggest surprise is Joe Burrow and the Bengals who got a massive win against division foe, Baltimore Ravens. While the biggest disappointment may be the downfall of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
All of this is factored into Week 8 of the NFL Power Rankings.
Now, before we dive into Week 8 of the NFL Power Rankings make sure you check out last week!!
With that now out of the way, let’s see this week’s NFL Power Rankings!!
32. Houston Texans 1-6 (Last Week- 32)
The bad news is, Houston keeps losing. The good news is, Tyrod Taylor could be back to play on Sunday. After playing a potent offense in Arizona, they move onto another potent offense in the LA Rams this coming weekend.
31. Miami Dolphins 1-6 (Last Week – 30)
Miami is an absolute hot mess right now. They can not catch a break, as they lose once again to a field goal in the final seconds of the game. There are a lot of questions looming around this team and what the next step will be. Obviously, the rumors of Deshaun Watson have heated back up and Miami is in the middle of it all. Is QB really the issue though?
It will not get easier, they fave division rival and powerhouse Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
30. Detroit Lions 0-7 (Last Week- 31)
Detroit did not have it easy coming into this game. They proved though they could hang around as they gave Matt Stafford and the Rams a run for their money on the road in LA.
I keep saying it, this team has something, they just need to build on it. The fight in this 0-7 team is one like I have never seen.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars- 1-5 (Last Week- 29)
–BYE WEEK– Up Next: at Seattle
28. New York Jets-1-5 (Last Week- 27)
Oof. Not only did the Jets lose rookie QB, Zach WIlson to a knee injury, but they got shellacked while they were at it. Losing 54-13 to the New England Patriots, it was not a pretty game at all for Gang Green.
All in all, just… YIKES…
27. Philadelphia Eagles 2-5 (Last Week- 25)
I’ll keep this one simple this week… The team as a whole is struggling, not much you can do, Hurts is doing what he can but the man has virtually nothing around him.
26. Chicago Bears 3-4 (Last Week- 23)
Ran straight into a buzz saw did the Chicago Bears as they faced Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. The team only managed 3 points in the loss, so all in all there really are no positives in this loss.
Fields struggled mightily and Matt Nagy gets another loss on his record.
25. New York Giants 2-5 (Last Week- 28)
The G-Men get their second win of the season against a reeling Carolina Panthers team. Thus coming with a very depleted receiving corps (Toney, Golladay, Shepard). Although it is tough to gauge Daniel Jones, he did what he had to do this week to lead the team to a win.
They head into Week 8 with a Monday Night Showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs.
24. Indianapolis Colts 3-4 (Last Week- 24)
It was raining sideways, and the wind was just downright disrespectful, but Carson Wentz and the Colts were able to squeak out a win against the 49ers.
Jonathan Taylor is a machine, and Michael Pittman is legit, as the Colts try to stay within sight of the Tennessee Titans.
Speaking of the Titans, that is who the Colts will face in a big-time divisional showdown on Sunday afternoon.
23. Atlanta Falcons 3-3 (Last Week- 26)
Matt Ryan is looking good all of a sudden and some of it may have to do with rookie TE, Kyle Pitts. The team took down Miami in the final seconds of Sunday’s game with a field goal.
All in all the team is looking good and is back to an even record heading into a divisional rival week against the Panthers.
22. Washington Football Team 2-4 (Last Week – 20)
WFT played what was probably their best defensive game of the season against the Packers. It was not enough though as they would fall to 2-4 on the season.
A lot went wrong Sunday though, for the Football Team, a lot needs to be fixed, and they will try and do that on Sunday when they head to Colorado to face the Denver Broncos.
21. Pittsburgh Steelers 3-3 (Last Week – 21)
–BYE WEEK– Up Next: at Cleveland
20. New England Patriots 3-4 (Last Week- 22)
First things first here is a breakdown of the Patriots beat down of the Jets this last Sunday.
Okay, now back to it. It may have been the Jets, but Sunday’s win was big for the New England Patriots. They did it in an absolute beat-down fashion, embarrassing the New York Jets, 54-13.
It was a good confidence boost heading into a big Week 8 matchup with the LA Chargers.
19. Denver Broncos 3-4 (Last Week – 19)
The Broncos have a QB issue. Now it isn’t the only reason they are in an absolute downfall. There are multiple reasons in all phases of the game, but the QB seems to be the most glaring issue as Teddy Bridgewater seems to be regressing.
We will see what happens Sunday when they face the Washington Football Team.
18. Seattle Seahawks 2-5 (Last Week – 18)
The Seahawks are nothing without Russell WIlson, and it showed its ugly face on Monday Night Football. Outside of the 84-yard touchdown to DK Metcalf, backup QB, Geno Smith could get nothing going at all in the rain. It is hard to see what happens next, but they do have a favorable matchup at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.
17. Minnesota Vikings 3-3 (Last Week- 17)
–BYE WEEK– Up Next: vs. Dallas
16. San Francisco 49ers 2-4 (Last Week – 14)
It was absolutely miserable on Sunday night at Levi Stadium, wet, windy, and monsoon was happening during the game and it showed.
For Shanahan and the 49ers, it was not the outcome they wanted. A loss, and a massive question mark at QB, leaving the 49ers up in the air as to what is next.
One thing that is for sure, they will head to Chicago and face the Bears on Sunday.
15. Carolina Panthers 3-4 (Last Week – 15)
When I first started the NFL Power Rankings, the Panthers looked like a sleeper team. Well, they are, just not the good kind. After starting 3-0, Sam Darnold and the Carolina offense have fallen asleep at the wheel. With the injury of Chrisitan McCaffrey, it has gone downhill for the Panthers.
They will look to bounce back Sunday when they face their rival Atlanta Falcons.
14. New Orleans Saints 4-2 (Last Week- 16)
It was an ugly game, to say the least on Monday night in Seattle. Rainy and Windy conditions made it tough, but, in the end, the first-year kicker made the winning field goal, and the Saint is now 4-2 on the season.
They face a very tough test next week when they go against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
13. Cleveland Browns 4-3 (Last Week – 13)
A team that was down, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and Baker Mayfield. While playing with a half healthy, OBJ and Jarvis Landry somehow pulled out a win on a short week with Thursday Night Football.
So, naturally, Case Keenum stepped in at QB, and D’Ernest Johnson at running back and led the Cleveland Browns to a huge early-season win.
They will look to keep it going on Sunday when they face the Steelers with hopefully Nick Chubb back in the backfield.
12. Kansas City Chiefs 3-4 (Last Week – 10)
Patrick Mahomes is a shell of himself right now. He has at least one pick in his last six games, and he seems to be more errant at throwing than ever before. The team trailed 24-0 very early in the game before they even got anything going. Even then, they only mustered up 3 points.
The Chiefs are in very unchartered waters right now, and they are headed in the wrong direction. They have a lot of work to do to even attempt to make a run in the playoffs.
They will look to do just that when they face the Giants on Monday Night Football.
11. Tennessee Titans 5-2 (Last Week – 12)
Tennessee just keeps rolling after a rough start, this week they absolutely embarrassed the Kansas City Chiefs. The beat goes on for this team as they are finding their stride at the right time.
They will face the Colts next Sunday.
10. Los Angeles Chargers 4-2 (Last Week – 9)
–BYE WEEK– Up Next: vs. New England
9. Baltimore Ravens 5-2 (Last Week -5)
The Ravens head into their bye tied atop of the AFC North with the Bengals. This coming off of an absolute beatdown of a loss to that Bengals team.
8. Las Vegas Raiders 5-2 (Last Week – 8)
The Raiders ground out a nice win against the Eagles. They now head into their bye week as the team in the first place of the AFC West. Yes, I just said that the Raiders are first in their division. They have looked terrific up to this point, now for a week of relaxation of the Vegas team.
7. Cincinnati Bengals 5-2 (Last Week – 11)
Holy Moly, where did the Bengals come from? They have been absolutely scorching hot and they now have flown up the NFL Power Rankings thanks to a massive statement win against the Baltimore Ravens.
6. Green Bay Packers 6-1 (Last Week – 7)
It is now 6 in a row for the Green Bay Packers. They rolled to a win over the Football Team on Sunday Afternoon. They will look to keep it rolling on Thursday Night Football against the Arizona Cardinals without Davante Adams and Allen Lazard.
5. Dallas Cowboys 5-1 (Last Week – 6)
–BYE WEEK– Up Next: at Minnesota
4. Los Angeles Rams 6-1 (Last Week – 4)
The Rams almost ran into a trap game against the winless Lions, but, they were able to hold them off and get their 6th win of the season.
P.S. Cooper Kupp is still REALLY REALLY good.
They will face another bad team this week in the Houston Texans.
3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6-1 (Last Week – 3)
I could have moved Tampa up a spot in the Week 8 NFL Power Rankings, but I decided to leave them for this week. Tom Brady looked like Tom Brady throwing his 600th career touchdown, all while the train just kept moving for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Their next game will be against the Saints next Sunday.
2. Buffalo Bills 4-2 (Last Week – 2)
–BYE WEEK– Up Next: vs. Miami
1. Arizona Cardinals 7-0 (Last Week – 1)
Who else would be number one right now other than the only team who does not have a loss yet, the Arizona Cardinals came out of the gate a little rusty against the Houston Texans, but they were able to kick it into another gear and pull out the win to move to 7-0
They face a short week now as they get set to host Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football.
Wrapping up the Week 8 NFL Power Rankings
This week’s NFL Power Rankings were all over the place. Lots of rising and nose-diving. One thing that is for sure, as we go into Week 8, it is becoming clearer where most teams stand, and as we head later into the season you will see that more teams will be staying put.
The race is on for the postseason, it is going to be a bumpy ride to the finish line, but damn is it going to be one hell of a finish.
