Jarrett Stidham will be out for approximately three months after having back surgery
For weeks now, New England Patriots fans have been wondering who the starting quarterback will be for 2021. Is it Cam with a second chance? Could Mac Jones be starting in the long-term of 2021? But one guy everyone forgot about is Jarrett Stidham. Remember, before Mac Jones, Stidham was competing with Cam for a potential starting spot. (Yes, I know Cam was the easy choice, but go with it okay?!) But now, it looks like Stidham won’t be in the picture for quite a while. Jarrett Stidham had successful surgery on his back and will be sidelined for 12 weeks.

Cam is the Guy

We figured this would happen. Cam is going to be the starter and won’t have really any competition. Mac Jones will be good, don’t get me wrong. But he isn’t ready yet to be the starter, at least for week one. Brian Hoyer will be lucky to even make the roster. That gave a potential (low I know!) opportunity for Stidham to compete for the backup job at worst. It’s Cam Newton’s job to lose and it’s about time we all accept that.
Jarrett Stidham Getting Back Surgery Means a Shot for Jake Dolegala?
Jake Dolegala was claimed off waivers by the Patriots on July 28th.

This came after finding out Stidham would be out for the foreseeable future. Could this mean Dolegala has a long shot chance of making the roster? Personally, I think he’s gone in the next few weeks. But hey, you never know at this point!
In Conclusion
It sucks because the Patriots were hoping Stidham would turn out to be something special in 2019. Now? He’s looking at the very realistic possibility of being cut when he comes back in November. Plus, if they really thought Stidham was the next guy, would they have taken Mac Jones in the draft in April? Case and point! Hoping Stidham obviously recovers quickly and without much pain. For now though? It’s time to continue to prepare for a bounce back 2021 season.
