Euro’s 2020 – Players to Watch Part 2!
Welcome back to another edition of the Euro’s 2020 players to watch! In this weeks’ edition, it is part 2.
We are less than 5 weeks away from the beginning of this major tournament which will help understand the teams making it onto the Qatar World Cup 2022. The format of this tournament will be a bit different in effect thanks to COVID-19 and residues of the pandemic. For starters, games will be played in about 7-9 different European areas including Seville, Bucharest, Saint Petersburg and many others.
The good news are though that this would be a major competition in which fans will be allowed in! So with good news and all, let’s get into some other players we should watch that weren’t cover in my initial blog!
Big Names to Watch For!
Alright, let’s get it going…
Gianluigi Donnarumma – Italy
In my opinion, Donnarumma could soon be the next Buffon if not already so. Speaking of Buffon, Donnarumma is my choice for the Italian side as one of the most interesting ones to watch for.
The legendary Gigi Buffon announced earlier today, that he will not be coming back to Juventus in an interview with BeIn Sports.
Gigi Buffon announces to Bein Sports: “I’ve decided to leave Juventus at the end of the season, I’m not extending the contract”. ⚪️⚫️ #Buffon #Juventus

With those news, it leaves many to think that Buffon could either be looking to come to the MLS and end his career here in the U.S. or the secondary option of pursuing his retirement from the game. As the speculations on the future for Buffon grow, it is clear that the future behind the net for Italy will be safe with Donnarumma.
Gianluigi will also be in huge demand this off-season as clubs like in the English Premier League and others will be making offers for his services. It goes without say, that the Italian has been sensational for AC Milan and it is now time for him to grow further.
Virgil Van Djik – Netherlands
After a grotesque tackle that would ruin Van Djik’s chances for the 2020/2021 EPL season, could we see VVD back in action?
Liverpool and Netherlands fans are craving a strong return from their sensational center-back and rightfully so. Virgil offers a sensational talent at the position and many could easily argue that he is the best at that position currently.
The concern will fully be on his return from ACL injury. Personally, I think we will see a more driven and superior quality form from VVD and he could be the star of the tournament for Netherlands.
Rising Stars – Euro 2020
Jadon Sancho – England
Jadon Sancho has been a name that’s often been brought up at transfer windows and rightfully so. Sancho, who is just 21 years old is easily one of England’s most sensational players so far at his position. Jadon’s technicality, creativity and trickery are just fuel to his already sensational pace and use of feints in one-on-one situations.
For England, the likes of Raheem Sterling, Rashford, Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho it is just prolific! Additionally, Southgate will be able to count on the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and so many more.
Having a starting attack that will feature Harry Kane, and the dynamic relationship between Rashford and Sancho will just simply elevate Jadon’s value even more.
In my opinion, Jadon could be the leading scorer in this tournament and therefore one of my picks to be a rising star in this years’ competition.
Serge Gnabry – Germany
Gnabry, 25 years old, is not just an incredible goal scorer but a revitalized talent with a chip on his shoulder.
The former Arsenal-prospect has been nothing short of tremendous ever since his move to Bayern Munich. At Bayern, Gnabry has become easily one of the most feared wingers in Europe. His immense pace, technique, agility and field vision will be one of the reasons for Germany’s potential success in the competition.
Serge will be a key component as to how Germany’s offense will work and if he is paired with a dynamic duo like Kai Havertz and Timo Werner, these 3 could be a lot to handle for any team facing Germany.
Diego’s Dark Horse Pick!
Aymeric LaPorte – Spain
Aymeric Laporte is set to switch national teams tomorrow following a direct request to do so from Spain’s national head coach. The defender, who is 26 years old and born in France is of Spanish decendants which would allow him to make the switch.
For a while now, Laporte has been excluded from France’s national team. As a result, continued frustration has built and hence the request. Come Wednesday morning, Laporte will be part of the plans for Spain’s Euro 2020 team.
Aymeric’s impressive performances right now under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City are unavoidable! Let’s not under-mind either just how impressive he was at Athletic Bilbao as well.
Once the move is complete, Laporte will join the likes of Sergio Ramos and teammate Eric Garcia, improving the Center-Back position for a very good Spanish National Team in 2021.
In Closing..
