It’s been awhile since I’ve something like this. Today, let’s have some fun shall we? No matter who you are or what team you root for, there’s always a collection of players that just annoy you. Over the years, there’s been some Patriots players that I could not stand. Even if they made a good play, I hated them. Before you event think about it, no, Cam Newton is not on this list so shut it Newton haters. So, for me, this is going to be a painful road down a horrible memory lane. Maybe it will be for you too. But let’s stop putting it off and let’s get into it shall we? For fun, we’ll go from five to one, just to build suspense!
5. Albert Haynesworth
UGH. He had so much potential even though I couldn’t stand him! Haynesworth was one of the “bad boys” of the NFL where he was constantly in trouble. Before he was even gifted an opportunity to be with the Patriots, he was in Tennessee with the Titans. It’s no lie he had an attitude problem with a huge ego. It was his way or the highway which is something you never want from a player. In 2006, Haynesworth stomped on Dallas Cowboys’ center Andre Gurode. He ripped off Gurode’s helmet and just stomped on him. That has no place in the NFL. In New England, he was just awful and was cut before the conclusion of the season in 2011.
4. Brandon Meriweather
I never understood why the Patriots took this guy in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He had one good season and for some reason that’s remembered more than his three bad seasons in New England. He was penalized often. At times, he would be called for a pass interefence or holding when it wasn’t even necessary for him to be involved in the play. Not to mention he was also a dirty player. I don’t who you are or what team you’re on, if you’re a dirty player I don’t like you.
3. Aaron Dobson
Aaron Dobson thought he was all that when really he was nothing. He would drop just about anything thrown to him. Dobson sucked, big time. He would be upset with Josh McDaniels whenever he wasn’t included in plays. In fact, there were reports that often Dobson would mouth off to McDaniels because of how little Dobson was involved. He wasn’t a good receiver. Literally he nickname was Aaron Dropson because of how many drops he had.
2. Laurence Maroney
One of the worst draft picks in Patriots history. Maroney was horrible! As a kid, I was excited, but then slowly he just became worse and worse as a player. The Patriots caught on quickly that Maroney wasn’t it and he very rarely would get the ball towards the end of his time in New England. Everytime he’d get the ball he instantly would go outside instead of up the middle where there were holes in the line for him to get through. Defenses loved going against the Patriots run game because they knew to just wait on the outside for Maroney. Ugh.
1. Marshall Newhouse
I hate Marshall Newhouse. Plain and simple. He was the reason why Tom Brady would be sacked by the opposing defenses. I haven’t played football since high school and I could get by him. Many Patriots fans each week would take to twitter or any other social media to just complain about how bad he was. Having him on the offensive line was the equivalent of having nobody there. Seriously, he couldn’t block and I wish I could block out his Patriots career from my head.
Alright rant over. My head hurts just remembering these guys. Thankfully none of them are on the team anymore and we can all just look forward to the future of the Patriots without them.
