Buffalo Sabres Season Preview

The 2021-2022 NHL season starts today!! There will be two games taking place tonight as the Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Tampa Bay Lighting as Tampa will raise their Stanley Cup banner and the Seattle Kraken will play their first game in franchise history as they will take on the Vegas Golden Knights. As for the Buffalo Sabres, they won’t play until Thursday night as they will host the Montreal Canadiens. With everything that took place in the offseason, I’m glad they’ll be playing once again. In this article, I will tell Sabres fans what they should expect.

What To Expect

Kraken Expansion Draft: Who could be taken from the Buffalo Sabres

Spoiler alert, it’s going to be another rough season. The team has not made the playoffs in 10 years and I think it will be 11 once all is set and done. This shouldn’t come as a surprise though, I think all Sabres fans are ready for what’s going to happen from October to April. Especially with losing a few of their key players in the offseason and the incoming departure of Jack Eichel, whenever he gets traded. When you look at the goaltending, Craig Anderson and Dustin Tokarski will be the Sabres goaltending tandem this year. Anderson, who is approaching the end of his career and Tokarski, who was with the team last season, will be trying to rite the ship.

Reason For Optimism

Kevyn Adams: Sabres will build around young core of Dahlin, Cozens, Mittelstadt | theScore.com

Despite this season is not looking good, there is a reason for Sabres fans to be optimistic for the future. Yes, I know us Buffalo fans have heard that phrase so many times during the last decade. However, I think general manager Kevyn Adams is trying to rebuild the right way this time. Tage Thompson, Casey Mittelstadt, Rasmus Dahlin, Henri Jokiharju, Victor Olofsson, Dylan Cozens, Owen Power, JJ Peterka and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen are just a few names of players who will be pillars of the franchise going forward.

Final Thoughts

Here’s a bold prediction. The Sabres won’t make the playoffs but I think they will be better than people expect. The reason, head coach Don Granato seems like the players love playing for him and we got a small sample size of that last year. We’ll see what happens this season but there is a reason to be hopeful if you’re a Sabres fan, not this season but going forward.
