5 Players Who Will Breakout on the Buffalo Sabres

It’s hard to believe but the NHL season is right around the corner. When it comes to the Buffalo Sabres, I think it’s safe to say it won’t be a good season for them but they do have talent on the roster. With that being said, here are 5 players who I think will breakout this season.

Jeff Skinner

It’s crazy to have a guy who’s an all star, a 30 and 40 goal scorer as a breakout player but here we are. After recording 40 goals during the 2018-2019 season, Skinner has not been very successful during the last two seasons. After his 40 goal season, Jeff has scored a total of 21 goals over the last two seasons. Part of it is because of how poorly coached he was under Ralph Krueger. With Don Granato being the coach now, I think Jeff will bounce back this season.

Tage Thompson

Tage Thompson is another player who I think will breakout this season. Tage has been with the Sabres for a couple of seasons but hasn’t really been a key player, that is until after Don Granato took over last year. Towards the end of last season, Tage was one of Buffalo’s best players along with the next player I’ll talk about. I think this is the year Thompson proves himself to be a good NHL player.

Casey Mittelstadt

Just like Thompson, Casey Mittelstadt was one of Buffalo’s best players towards the end of the season. Both Casey and Tage have been in the NHL for a couple of years and both of them struggled under Krueger. When Granato took over, not only did Mittelstadt and Thompson play better, but the whole team played better as well. Are you sensing a trend? I think all of these players who I will mention will be a breakout player for the Sabres.

Anders Bjork

This might come as a surprise but I think Anders Bjork will have a good season. Bjork came to Buffalo in the trade that sent Taylor Hall to the Boston Bruins. After coming to Buffalo, Anders had 3 goals and 3 assists in 15 games played last year. Even though the numbers aren’t that impressive, he stood out to me in a few games and now that he has a fresh start, I think he’ll make the most of it and have a breakout season with the Sabres.

Dylan Cozens

The last player who I think will breakout is Dylan Cozens. With Jack Eichel not being the captain anymore, I think there’s a good chance Cozens will be the next captain in a couple of years. He won a lot of fans over, including me, after getting into a fight last year. Now I know fighting is a part of hockey but the Sabres don’t have a guy who can score and isn’t afraid to get physical. Cozens is that guy and I think he will be one of, if not, Buffalo’s best player this season.
