Boston Red Sox: Taylor Motter leads off on Monday, DFA’d on Tuesday
The Red Sox have officially ended the Taylor Motter experience. The 31-year-old infielder was designated for assignment by the club on Tuesday afternoon. Boston acquired Motter off waivers from the Rockies back on Sept. 2nd.
Red Sox DFA Taylor Motter after short stint with the club
Motter played 13 games for the Rockies this season. The right-handed hitter hit .150 with the Rockies, he collected three hits in 20 at-bats. Motter was a career .189 hitter with 10 homers, 37 RBIs in 433 plate appearances in the majors prior to landing with Boston.
During his short tenure with the Red Sox, Motter played in three games where he hit .333 with a double, triple and an RBI.

Motter’s last game with the Red Sox came on Monday, the infielder hit lead off for Alex Cora. He would go 2-for-5 with a double, triple and an RBI. Motter hit his triple to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Despite providing key hits for the Sox at the plate, Motter made two crucial errors in the Monday’s game against Tampa Bay.
Taylor Motter’s last game with the Sox was one of the worst losses of the season
The Red Sox would go on to lose the game to the Rays 11-10 after leading the game 7-1. The loss was won of the toughest the Sox have experienced all season.
Motter was added off waivers by the Red Sox to provide depth while the club battles through COVID-19 issues. The club DFA’d him on Tuesday to create room for Kiké Hernandez who is coming off the COVID-19 related IL.
