Boston Red Sox acquire Taylor Motter off waivers from Rockies
The Red Sox continue to add players off waivers and acquired infielder Taylor Motter. The 31-year-old infielder comes from the Rockies after he was designated for assignment last week.

Motter played 13 games for the Rockies this season. The right-handed hitter hit .150 with the Rockies, he collected three hits in 20 at-bats. Motter is a career .189 hitter with 10 homers, 37 RBIs in 433 plate appearances in the majors.
The veteran comes to Boston giving the club additional depth in the wake of losing Xander Bogaerts, Christian Arroyo and Yairo Muñoz. All three players are on the COVID-related IL after testing positive.

“Athletic, versatile,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. “It’s one of those situations where we’re at right now. I think if we recognize talent, it would be good to add it to our structure. We don’t know what could happen in two hours or three hours or tomorrow. He was having a good season in Triple A, got called up by the Rockies and he got put on waivers so we jumped into the opportunity. So we’ll see. There’s obviously other stuff that goes on before he joins us. So we still have to wait.”
The acquisition of Motter gives the Red Sox a versatile infielder that’ll be able to hold a roster spot without having to call up a prospect and waste service time and an option. Motter can play all infield positions and if he sticks in Boston, he will be ineligible for the postseason roster providing the Red Sox keep him on the roster.
