A Must Win for the New England Patriots as They Head Into New York on Sunday
The New England Patriots dropped their home opener against the Miami Dolphins, giving them an 0-1 record going into New York. The Patriots were the clear favorites to win that game. Plus, they were on their way to win until running back, Damien Harris, fumbled the ball in redzone.
However, some fans were still satisfied with the performance from Rookie Quarterback, Mac Jones, in the losing effort. To me, that does not matter, they still lost the game. The team needed to come out of the gates 1-0 in order to gain valuable momentum as they get into their tougher match ups. Yes, Mac Jones played a very good game. However, they did not finish their drives and ended most of them in field goals. That is not going to win you football games in the NFL.
The good news is, is that Mac Jones understands that. He didn’t care about his performances, he was aggravated that the team lost the game. That is something you want to see as fans in your potential franchise quarterback.
Now, you have a team who is not very good in the New York Jets that you can’t afford to take lightly. The Patriots have the New Orleans Saints and the defending super bowl champs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers in weeks 3 and 4. If the Patriots dropped this week two game against the Jets, they will be flirting with an 0-4 start to the season.
My expectation going into that Tampa game was this team to be 2-1. With the team losing last week in heartbreaking fashion, it is now up to the team to show up against the Jets and the Saints.
I do not think the Patriots lose tomorrow’s game for a few reasons. One, coach Bill Belichick is a master mind when it comes to getting into the heads of rookie quarterbacks. Two, the Patriots just need to show up and play well. They are the better team and they know they need to win this game in order to gain momentum going into their next two weeks on the schedule.
The New England Patriots and New York Jets kick off Sunday at 1PM Eastern time.
