Who replaces Brad Stevens as Celtics head coach?

You’ve probably already heard the news by now. Danny Ainge is stepping down and Brad Stevens is taking Ainge’s role as president of basketball operations for the Celtics. This obviously leads a huge hole in the coaching department. Who takes over Brad Steven’s position? Here are a few names to keep in mind as the search now commences for the next Celtics head coach.

Replace Brad Stevens as Celtics Head Coach with…Kara Lawson

Kara Lawson is a very reputable candidate for this Celtics job. She’s been in the organization before and has head coaching experience at Duke as the women’s head coach. Lawson learned under Brad Stevens before. Wouldn’t it be something for Lawson to be the next head coach under the man who is now running the show? It could certainly happen.

Replace Brad Stevens as Celtics Head Coach with…Becky Hammon

Becky Hammon is another viable candidate for the Celtics to look into as head coach. She has experience with learning under one of the greatest basketball head coaches of all time in Gregg Popovich. She knows what it takes to win at the NBA level. Why not give Hammon a shot? Plus, if the Spurs are legitimately worried already about losing her, then you know Brad is going to seriously consider Hammon.

Replace Brad Stevens as Celtics Head Coach with…Chauncey Billups

Billups has been in the Celtics organization before. He’s a champion who knows what it takes to win on the court. He’s currently assisting Tyronn Lue and the Clippers in their playoff run. Plus, he would thrive at the chance to be able to coach Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, just like all of the other candidates. Don’t be surprised if Billups name continues to get floated around in rumors.

Replace Brad Stevens as Celtics Head Coach with…Sam Cassell

Sam Cassell was a part of the 2008 championship team. He knows what it takes first hand to win in the city of Boston. Plus, he has Kendrick Perkins on his side which doesn’t necessarily hurt.

Cassell is a dark horse candidate in my opinion. But then again, the NBA has surprised us before with weird signings.

Replace Brad Stevens as Celtics Head Coach with…Juwan Howard

This is one that nobody is talking about right now. Juwan Howard is a guy that brought Michigan to a number one ranking at one point. If he can help Michigan get back on top, then he can definitely help the Celtics here. He played with LeBron, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh too. He knows exactly what to do with a lot of talent put in front of him. I’d say at least give him a chance to interview for the position.

In Conclusion

The Celtics have a lot of great candidates to choose from in this pool. It was time for a change. Brad Stevens will do amazing in his new role with the Celtics. Now it’s just about putting the right person in charge of the ship. Let the rumors begin!
