Following their first round exit from the first-round playoff elimination, the Celtics are making massive moves!
Breaking News – Danny Ainge OUT!
Celtics make it official: Danny Ainge retires, Brad Stevens is President of Basketball Operations
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) June 2, 2021
As mentioned earlier, the team’s president of basketball operations is stepping down from his role, effective immediately!
Earlier this morning, Shams Charania of the Athletic reported that the Celtics were planning transitional moves this morning. The report came behind a first-round exit for the Celtics in the playoffs after falling to the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night in a 123-109 game 5 blowout.
The 2021 Boston Celtics team finished their season with a 36-36 record in the regular season. Only reason they were in the playoffs were after securing the 7th-seed through the play-in tournament to reach this years’ playoffs.
Earlier in the season, this Celtics team seemed to have fired off on all cylinders. However, it was the latter part where injuries and some questionable moves truly brought this team completely out of contention. So what is next for the Boston Celtics front office?
Brad Stevens – Next Man up!

Congratulations to Stevens on his promotion!
The news of Brad Stevens’ promotion is quickly raising eyebrows through the Boston fanbase. Earlier in the year, it was reported that Brad Stevens turned down Indiana university coaching job, which offered a 7-year/$70 Million contract to then Celtics coach. Stevens’ decision is now questioned as these news raise curiosity as to how long Stevens knew this would be the case this year.
For Brad Stevens, his first business move will be to appointment the Celtics’ next head coach. So, who are some of the candidates? Well, according to Adam Kaufman from NBC 10 Boston Sports, here is a list of those candidates:
Potential Brad Stevens coaching replacements: Chauncey Billups, Sam Cassell, Juwan Howard, Becky Hammon, Jay Larranaga, Jason Kidd, Kenny Atkinson, Jay Wright.
Who's your preference, #Celtics fans?

The important factor here will be, that Stevens needs to be wise and bold in his decision. Specially, as he will need to now draft a plan together to build this team stronger for the upcoming season.
Who Is the Next Celtics Head Coach Then?
Many across the city of Boston are currently asking this question.
A wide-variety of names are being brought up. However, personally? My choice is Becky Hammon easily.
Hammon’s career in the NBA has been in a steady rise for the past few years ever since she got to the San Antonio Spurs.
In 2015, she took over the Summer league coaching responsibilities for the Spurs and on her 1st year, went onto winning the Summer League title with the Spurs! at the 2016 NBA All-Star game, Hammon became the first woman to be a part of an All-Star coaching staff.
Hammon’s stock right now is quickly rising thru an NBA seeking history and change, a perfect timing for a Celtics organization looking for both of those aspects as well.
