What To Watch Out For: Masters Day 2

Day one of the Masters is officially in the books. Boy what a first day it was. We had Justin Rose jump out the gates to start the tournament in first place at -7. The rest of the leaderboard looks as followed.

Now that we see the leaderboard for it is time to talk about what to watch out for in Day 2. With that being said here are my things to watch out for in day two of The Masters.

Does Bryson Make The Cut?

The golfer that everybody loves to hate is none other than Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau is being trolled like no tomorrow after today’s poor showing at Augusta National. Now the question has to be asked “Does He Make The Cut?” I said on The Chasers Podcast this week that I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t make the cut. Personally I don’t think he is equipped to be successful at this course. At the beginning of the tournament Bryson’s odds of not making the cut were +500. I almost took it, but I still expect him to be a lot better tomorrow.

He will make the adjustments necessary to get him back into the running of being in the middle of the pack. Do I believe he makes the cut? For the game of golf I hope he does, because it is good to have a “heel” in the tournament. I am starting to question though if he will be leaving Augusta early this year after his lack luster performance in day one.

Justin Rose 2021 Masters Winner?

Justin Rose is the current leader of the 2021 Masters at -7. He is looking to be the first day one leader to win the Masters since Jordan Spieth did it in 2015. Only four people have ever done this. Rose has had some success at Augusta as he has finished in second twice (2015, 2017). Shooting a 65 is his best round that he has had at the Masters ever in his career. The only bad thing for Justin Rose that in his career he has never shot less than 70 in the second round of the Masters ever. I see tomorrow being a struggle for him, and we will see some players shooting back up the board after day two is all said and done.

Who Will Lead After Day 2?

The leader after day two of the Masters is a question that will be answered tomorrow. Who will we see leading the board, I have a few names to watch out for in day two. The first name is Jordan Spieth. Spieth in his Masters career averages a little over a 70 in his career on day two at Augusta. With the way Spieth looked on the back nine, I see him having a good day tomorrow at Augusta National. Another name to watch out for is my winner of the Masters Justin Thomas. Thomas averages a 70 as well in his second day, but in his last three appearances at the Masters it is day two where he does his best damage. If Thomas wants to win the Masters he is going to have to continue that trend of performing great on day 2.

The Final name to watch for tomorrow is Rory McIlory. Last year Rory had his second best round ever on day two. I see the adjustments being made for Rory as he will shoot up the leaderboard in my opinion and at least finish in the top 20 by the end of the day.

Final Thoughts:

Our leader after day two in my opinion is going to be Patrick Reed. He currently is tied for fourth with -2. Day two has been Reed’s best day in his last three Masters appearances. I think he will take the lead by the end of the second round and will be our leader going into Day 3. We got a lot more coverage of the Masters this year so make sure that you stay tuned to all of the content.
