What Should the Sabres Do With Sam Reinhart?

Buffalo Sabres forward Sam Reinhart has been one of the cornerstones of the franchise for awhile now. With that being said, it’s possible the Sabres could trade their 2014 first round pick. In this article, I will give my thoughts on what the team should do with Reinhart.

They Should Not Trade Him

In my opinion, I don’t think the team should trade Reinhart. In what was another rough year for the franchise, Sam has been a bright spot. I would say he’s been the team’s MVP this year but you can also make a case for goaltender Linus Ullmark. Looking at Reinhart’s stats, he has been without a doubt Buffalo’s best offensive player. According to Sabres.com, Reinhart has 13 goals and 11 assists in 36 games played.

They Should Extend Him

Instead of trading him, I think general manager Kevyn Adams should give him a contract extension. Last offseason, the Sabres gave Reinhart a 1 year, $5.2 million contract extension. They also gave Taylor Hall a 1 year, $8 million contract extension, which shocked the hockey world. When it comes to Hall, it has been a very disappointing season and it looks like he will be traded, which could benefit the Sabres and they can use that money to give Reinhart a contract extension.

Final Thoughts

I do think the Sabres should bring back Sam. I know this franchise hasn’t made the playoffs in 10 years but Reinhart has been a bright spot this season and I know there are some fans who want him gone because the team hasn’t done anything with him on the roster. Now if you can get key pieces in a trade for him that can help the franchise, then I’m all for it. With that being said, I still would like to keep Sam and see what happens in the future.
