Tuukka Rask saves the Bruins, again

Last night’s 5-4 shootout win against the Philadelphia Flyers was anything but easy. The Boston Bruins’ first even-strength goal of the season came from Jack Studnicka, which also happened to be his first NHL goal.

Studnicka was one of the standout players of the night, rightfully so. However, there was one thing that remained the same as always – Tuukka Rask was elite.

“I actually said on the bench to [Chris Wagner] how I would not want to go against [Rask], just because of how calm he is in there,” Studnicka said. “Definitely kept us in the game there, so that was awesome.”

Even though the Bruins had to score goals to win, which has surprisingly been their main issue, I don’t think they would have walked away with two points if it weren’t for Rask. After all, they didn’t coin the phrase “2 U’s, 2 K’s, 2 points” for nothing.

Rask himself commented on how he wants to give his teammates the best shot at winning.

“It feels good to win those games, obviously,” he said. “If it’s a tie game going to a shoot out, as a goalie, you’re just trying to give your team a chance to win, and this year we won two more than last year altogether I guess.”

Having allowed four goals on just 26 shots throughout the night doesn’t sound too pretty. But, Rask did not allow one goal in the shootout, and this is why you can count on him when the rest of the team is underperforming.

It’s no secret that Rask gets a lot of flack from Bruins fans (not real fans of course) for “not being able to win big games.” They are hypercritical of him because he has never brought a Stanley Cup to Boston. Even though he is the winningest goalie in franchise history, some will never be satisfied.

Rask has clearly stated he does not want to play anywhere but Boston. His loyalty to his team is undeniable, even after being slandered all last summer for tending to a family emergency. I have a strong feeling that 2021 will be a Rask Revenge Tour – and I’m so here for it.
