Tommy White keeps hitting homers for NC State, the freshman now has nine in eight games

North Carolina State freshman Tommy White has done it again. White hit his ninth home run in his eighth collegiate game this season. The Wolfpack played a doubleheader against Quinnipiac on Saturday. White would hit a homer in each game.

During Game 1 of the doubleheader, White hit his eighth homer of the season, in a 12-10 win. In the fifth inning, White belted a two-run home run and ended up with four RBIs in the game.

For the nightcap, White did it again, bashing homer number nine. This three-run shot in the fourth to help NC State cruise to a 16-4 victory that improved its record to 8-0.

Tommy White making a serious run at the Golden Spikes Award?

Over the course of the first eight games, White is making the case win the Golden Spikes Award. The award is given to the best amateur player in the United States.

White has now hit nine home runs and has driven in 29 RBIs while posting a 1.412 slugging percentage. The Wolfpack’s slugger is on pace for a monster freshman season.

“I’ve never experienced a hot streak like this,” White said after his huge day on Friday. I’m not really focused on how many I hit, just focused on hard contact, focusing on the game and the wins.”

Despite the home runs and excitement, White’s focus is about his team and winning games.

“When I’m in the game, I really just focus on the game. The pressure is that I want to have my team win every chance I can. I’m just looking forward. I’m just trying to help the team any way I can.”
