Three Positives for the Red Sox so far in 2022
The Red Sox are not where they should be at this point in the season. They’re barely floating above water with their inconsistent play. The offense? Forget it! It’s been an absolute joke compared to what it was in 2021. Sure, you lost Kyle Schwarber and Hunter Renfroe, but you gained Trevor Story which should help. The pitching has been okay and kept them in a majority of games this season. However, there have been some positives for the Red Sox so far this season. A few guys we have to tip our cap too early on in the season. So let’s take a look at three positives for the Red Sox so far in 2022.
Red Sox 2022 Positive #1: Rich Hill
Rich Hill has been sneaky good for the Red Sox rotation. Sure, he isn’t going to blow hitters away with fastballs. But he’s smart, a competitor, and knows how to effectively pitch. After the Baltimore start the other day, Hill has a 3.71 ERA with some tough luck in the win-loss column. But he’s given the Red Sox a chance to win every game he’s started. You can’t ask for too much more if you’re a back-end of the rotation starter. So far, it looks like Rich Hill has been a good signing by Chaim Bloom for the Red Sox in 2022.
Positive #2: Xander Bogaerts
How long will it take for the Red Sox to extend Xander Bogaerts? Seriously, it’s getting ridiculous now! Regardless, Xander Bogaerts has been a bright spot for this woeful Red Sox offense. After the first game in Baltimore, Bogaerts is hitting .377 with a .914 OPS. Pretty good for a guy that management still hasn’t locked up long-term for some bizarre reason! Even after a rough start, Bogaerts continues to prove to people why he’s one of the best shortstops in the game.
Positive #3: Hansel Robles
The obvious pick out of the bullpen could’ve been Garrett Whitlock. But I’m actually going with Hansel Robles here. Robles has been a really good reliever since the end of last season. In 2022, he hadn’t given up a run until the Baltimore series. I love the fastball command of Robles for this Red Sox bullpen. It helps with a reliable option that’s not named Garrett Whitlock late in the game. If Robles can continue this success, it could be a nice little 1-2 punch in the 8th-9th inning of close games.
In Conclusion
Here are three reasons to be happy about the Red Sox. Who are some other players you have in mind? Feel free to reply to us @CouchGuySports with some other options. Enjoy the rest of your day everyone!
