THIS Is How The Red Sox Should Be Playing Consistently

The Red Sox and Yankees kicked off a crucial four game series at Fenway Park last night. The Red Sox have a significant gap between themselves and the Yankees in the standings. So last night was crucial to start off on the right foot. It’s safe to say the Red Sox flat out punched the Yankees in the mouth.

My goodness, what a score! This is the Red Sox team we’re used to seeing within the last year or two. There were several factors that led the way which should be more evident going forward for the Red Sox.

Their Pitching

This has been the negative story line the entire season. Last night, they kept the Bronx Bombers in check. Rick Porcello got the ball in this one and gave up 3 runs in 6 innings. It wasn’t lights out, but it’s good enough that on an average night, you have a chance to win. The bullpen combined for 3 innings of no run ball with 4 strikeouts as well. Granted, it’s only one game. But, this is the type of game this staff needed as a confidence booster going forward.

The Power

Obviously, you’re not scoring 19 runs every night. However, it’s good to see the Red Sox knocking baseballs out of the ballpark at an alarming rate. Xander Bogaerts kicked it off in the bottom of the first with a three run shot. Soon after, the homeruns started pouring out of the stadium. Devers, Chavis, even Leon were finding a way to put balls into the seats. If the Red Sox can continue to put up power numbers and knock in a lot of runs, they have something to work with here.

In Conclusion

Good series opening win, but they have to consistently play like this. Good pitching, good defense, and timely hitting equates to a lot of wins in baseball. Get two more wins in this series and gain some ground going into August. Imagine if this team fires on all cylinders come August and September? My goodness, we’ll be having some more fun come October!
