Red Sox Brayan Bello has shown much upside during the 2023 season

BOSTONBrayan Bello is only 24 years old and is only in his second season pitching for the Red Sox but his first full year. Bello has posted a 3.08 E.R.A, 73 IP, 67 SO, 22 BB, and 25 ER, posting a (5-5) win, loss record in 2023. He has shown that upside that the Red Sox need because due to injuries to Chris Sale, Tanner Houck, and Garrett Whitlock, the rotation has been very much depleted so far. Granted James Paxton has been pitching phenomenally since joining the rotation along with Bello. Besides the two guys I mentioned there hasn’t been much recent success with the staff relating to the pitchers.

Going back and talking about Bello his confidence and his stuff on the mound have contributed to the success from his first starts in the 2022 season until now. On June 29th he took a no-hitter into the 8th inning against the Miami Marlins which he unfortunately lost and ended up on the losing side of the ballgame. In his last three starts combined which include games against the Marlins, White Sox, and Yankees he has only allowed 3 earned runs in 20.2/3 innings pitched which is impressive. I would not be surprised if by the end of his first full year in the majors, he would end up with 12-14 wins with an E.R.A just under 3.00 for the year.

Red Sox pitching great Pedro Martinez mentored Bello

Pedro Martinez mentoring Brayan Bello.

During this past off season former Red Sox great Pedro Martinez decided to help Bello because he mentioned they have the same body type and he was also saying Bello is more talented than the pitching great.

“I saw a young kid with a really high ceiling that all he needed was to build confidence, to understand what he needed to do to execute some pitches. A raw athlete out there, trying to survive in the best baseball in the world.” Pedro explains. “Great attitude, smart, hard worker, he has everything going for him.”“The reason I work with him is, we have the same body type. He’s a little bit stronger at the same age,” the Hall of Famer concedes. “And I think he is way more talented than I am.

This was from the Boston Herald that Pedro has his high praise for the young talented man from Samana, Dominican Republic. It must be really hard to get any approval from any other athlete but when he hits home and Bello is well-liked around the clubhouse and his peers including a former Sox pitcher that must be pretty cool for him.

What does the future hold for Bello

I can say about Bello’s immediate future is that he can become a top-of-rotation guy within the next few seasons depending on what the team does about Sale’s future also if they bring a true #1 starter to the team. Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom still remains in jeopardy after this season so they can bring an effect of the team going in different directions but Bello does remain in plans. He should get a well-deserved contract once he gets more comfortable or settled in. This kid has a young special talent and should be around the majors for a long time.
