The NBA Finals are Set: The Suns in 4

The “Suns in 4” slogan has been sweeping the internet and social media by storm ever since Suns fan Nick McKellar got into a fight with Nuggets fans a few weeks ago. During Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals, a fight between McKellar and a Nuggets fan took over social media. Following the fight, McKellar became an internet celebrity by holding up four fingers. He would yell, “Suns in 4”, which came true after the Suns swept the Nuggets out of the playoffs.

The Suns will now take on Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals. For the Suns, this is there first appearance in the NBA Finals in almost 30 years. The last time the Suns were in the NBA Finals was 1993 where they lost in six games to the Chicago Bulls.

Will it be the Suns in four or will Antetokounmpo and the Bucks spoil the fun and bring a NBA title to Milwaukee for the first time since 1971?

That Suns team was led by Charles Barkley, point guard Kevin Johnson and Dan Majerle. However, they were no match for the Bulls who featured the best player on the planet in Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.

This year’s cast of players is dramatically different for the Suns. Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Chris Paul are the Suns big three. In addition, the Suns have a great supporting cast of players surrounding Booker, Ayton and Paul.

For the Bukcs, Antetokounmpo injured his knee during the Eastern Conference Finals against the Hawks during Game 4. He would have to root for his teammates from the bench for the final two games of the series. During the three games he played, Antetokounmpo averaged  30.7 PPG on 59% shooting, plus 10.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists.

After his injury, Khris Middleton stepped up and was there when his team needed him to be. During Game 6 against the Hawks, Middleton was dominant scoring 32 points, he was 4-10 from 3PT. He took over the third period scoring 23 points to help punch the Cream City’s ticket to the Finals.

The Bucks will need Middleton and the other supporting cast to come up big during the Finals, especially with an injured Antetokounmpo.

Devin Booker is a Superstar

Booker played like a superstar throughout the entire series against the Clippers. Whether Booker had a mask on or off on the court, nothing held the 24-year-old shooting guard back. Booker scored 25.5 points with 5.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists in the series against the Clippers.

Booker was dominant during Game 1 against the Clippers dropping his first NBA triple-double: 40 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. The shooting guard shouldered the loud for his team while Chris Paul was out due to health and safety protocols.

Despite breaking his nose in a head-to-head collision with Clippers guard Patrick Beverley, Booker was still solid. Overall, he shot 35.2% and was 6-of-25 from 3-point range in the final four games of the series.

After being part of a Suns team that lost 233 games since he entered the league in 2015, Booker is four wins away from a title.

Chris Paul Finally Gets a Ring?

This is going to be Chris Paul’s first NBA Finals appearance of his career. The 16-year future Hall of Fame point guard had a powerful clinching game against the Clippers. He would go on to score 41 points in the win and is now four wins away from a championship.

Paul who has spent time with Hornets, Clippers, Rockets and Thunder will look to add a NBA championship to the long list of accomplishments over the course of his career. If the Suns are going to apply pressure to the ailing Bucks, they will need a healthy Paul.

Suns in 4

I know it’s cliché to say “Suns in 4”, but with Antetokounmpo banged up, the Suns are the favorites. This suns team has been rebuilding for years and finally have a nucleus of players that can win it all.

The Suns control their destiny, head coach Monty Williams said that during a speech at the NBA Bubble.

The Suns are in the drivers seat heading into the Finals and for Phoenix, if they win, it’ll be a long time coming. In fact, Booker said that in his postgame press conference.

Phoenix has turned their franchise around, from the losing, to hiring Williams, drafting Booker, adding a outstanding support cast to landing Paul.

It’s the Suns time, Suns in 4.
