Red Sox send five players to the MLB All-Star Game

The MLB All-star game is officially a short time away and we now have our teams! We knew before that Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts are starting for the American League in the midsummer classic. Now, we have the full roster. So with that being said, let’s look at the five Red Sox All-stars for the 2021 season.

Red Sox All-Star #1: Rafael Devers

Rafael Devers is having himself quite the season as a first time Red Sox All-star. The 24 year old third baseman has 20 homeruns and close to 70 RBI’s on the year so far. He’s been one of the most productive third basemen in the MLB. Plus, his defense has gotten significantly better. Devers is more than deserving of his first All-star bid with the Red Sox during the 2021 season.

Red Sox All-Star #2: Xander Bogaerts

Bogaerts earned the nod as starting shortstop in his third All-star game in his young career. The shortstop is putting himself into the category of best overall shortstops in the MLB. Bogaerts has 13 homeruns and 48 RBI’s on the young season while taking care of the majority of shortstop duties for the Red Sox. It should come as no surprise that Bogaerts is one of the Red Sox All-stars in 2021.

#3: JD Martinez

JD Martinez finds himself as a reserve for the 2021 All-star game. This is his fourth selection overall and third with the Red Sox. JD finds himself with a .303 average along with 17 homeruns and 56 RBI’s on the year. It’s no secret the Red Sox DH finds himself as an All-star once again with the way this Red Sox team is mashing the baseball!

#4: Nathan Eovaldi

Now we get to the Red Sox pitching for this next All-star. Nathan Eovaldi finds himself on the All-star team for the first time in his MLB career. Granted, he has been one of the Red Sox best starters throughout the first half of the 2021 season. In 17 starts, Eovaldi is 9-4 with a 3.41 ERA. That is quite the ERA considering the time period baseball is in now with a need for a lot of offense to spark fan’s attention. Good on “Nasty Nate” for getting himself in the All-star game for the first time!

#5: Matt Barnes

Matt Barnes took a big step up being the Red Sox closer for this 2021 season. Barnes has been a dependable closer for the Red Sox late in games. Especially with all the one run games they’ve found themselves in! Barnes has a 2.75 ERA along with 18 converted saves. This is Barnes’s first appearance as an All-Star for the Red Sox in his eight year career. It makes sense for him to be a part of this team with the way he’s consistently locked down saves for the Red Sox this season.

In Conclusion

Good for the five of these Red Sox players! They will represent Red Sox nation well in Denver. After that, the second half begins. The job isn’t finished. Let them enjoy the moment. But then it’s back to business for the second half of the season!
