The Knicks Big Splash In Free Agency Is….Evan Fournier
The NBA Free Agency period began on Monday at 6 PM and almost immediately, free agents signed their deals with their new or former teams. Assumably, most of these deals had been in the works for the past couple of days. This had Woj and Shams posting pre-written tweets, putting out deal after deal as soon as the clock struck 6.
Making a Splash?
The Knicks were expected to be big players during this years free agency period. They had interest in a lot of big name free agents, including Kyle Lowry, Spencer Dinwiddie, and DeMar DeRozan.
Ultimately, new president Leon Rose ended up getting the guy we all expected them to get. Evan Fournier.
Free agent Evan Fournier has agreed to a four-year deal that could be worth as much as $78M with the New York Knicks, source tells ESPN.

This is the most typical Knicks free agency period ever. It happens every year. The fans hype up all the big names and get themselves excited. All of this just to get let down once again.
Admittedly, Evan Fournier is not a bad player. He is currently playing for France in the olympics and dropped 25 on team USA in their first game, as a result leading his nation to victory.
The Frenchman has a great ability to shoot from 3 and spread out the floor, and for this reason he will improve the Knickerbockers offensive woes. The Knicks struggled to shoot the 3 in their first round playoff exit vs the Hawks, shooting only 30% from behind the arc. Fournier shot a career-high 41.3% from the 3-point line this past season.
The one thing I really don’t like about this is the contract. The Knicks had a shit ton of cap space, $53 million to be exact, and decided to spend the majority of their money on an average-to-decent shooting guard/small forward.
The Knicks gave out 3-year contracts worth $183 million today.

Re-signing Former Players
On the bright side, the Knicks did bring back mostly all of their role players that all played a part in bringing them to the playoffs last season.
In the past couple days, they inked deals with Nerlens Noel, Alec Burks, Derrick Rose, and Taj Gibson. This gives fans some sort of hope, considering they will be returning the same team that led them to the postseason in the first place.
But it just sucks when the fans become excited for their team to make moves in free agency just to disappoint them again.
