Dodgers Fans Heckle the Astros from the Stands, Throw Inflatable Trash Cans onto the Field

The fans of the Dodgers hate the Astros. There is no other way to say it, they loathe the Astros existence. But now, are trash cans in play between the Astros and Dodgers?

This stems back to when the two clashed in the World Series back in 2017. In case you forgot, the Astros defeated the Dodgers in seven games. The Astros would go on to win their first World Series title in franchise history.

The Scandal

Following the Astros’ win, controversy began to reign over Major League Baseball. The Astros were accused of cheating during the 2017 season. MLB determined in 2019 that they had been illegally using technology to steal opposing teams signs.

Everything from live monitors in the dugout to trash barrels being hit were used to alert the Astros batters of the upcoming pitches. After the fines, suspensions and terminations you’d think everything would be calm for the Astros.

Nope.

The pandemic shortened season allowed the Astros to not be ridiculed by opposing fans on a nightly basis. The only time the team felt the heat was a terrible press conference prior to the start of the season where none of the players took accountability.

No Littering

Fast forward to 2021, the Astros have been getting torched by opposing teams fans. Fans of the Yankees have given the Astros their fair share of shit. But the Dodgers fan base has had enough of it all and bashed Astros players.

The two teams met in Los Angeles and crowd of 52,692 were ready to let out almost four years worth of anger.

Dodgers fans would scream “cheaters” from the stands, they would mock and boo José Altuve and Carlos Correa.

Fans threw inflatable trash cans onto the field delaying the game in the first and third innings. In addition to inflatable trash barrels fans tossed baseballs onto the field. This prompted an announcement over the PA system that ended with “… throwing objects on the field will be grounds for ejection.”

Fans didn’t care, this was their way to express years of frustration. Dodgers fans have felt screwed over between the Astros World Series and then the Red Sox win in the Fall Classic the following season. Just like Jared Carrabis of Barstool Sports said in his tweet, Dodger Stadium was a war zone with those trash cans.

Despite the boos, trash cans and more, Astros’ starter Lance McCullers was dynamite on the mound. McCullers, who went 6 2/3 innings and was particularly calm during the playoff like atmosphere.

The Astros blocked the noise and defeated the Dodgers 3-0 on Tuesday night. The “cheater” chants, Oscar the Grouch peeking out of his trash can shirts didn’t phase the Astros. The foam finger asterisk didn’t rattle their cages.

Houston knew this was coming too them and they blocked out the noise and played baseball. Dodgers Mookie Betts made a phenomenal diving catch at second base which was their only highlight of the night.

Tuesday night was for Dodgers fans, this was your swan-song, your chance to get it all out of your system with the trash cans. It’s now time to let these two teams play baseball and here’s to the Dodgers taking the next two games in the series.
