The Kemba Walker Injury Is A Bad Look For The Celtics
In case you have been living under a rock, Kemba Walker has just missed his 4th straight game due to a sore knee. The same knee he had drained after playing a ridiculous 32 minutes in the All-Star Game (apparently going over a minutes limit). So instead of having a week off straight to get ready for the 2nd half, Kemba played a lot of minutes in a meaningless game which has now cost him 4 regular season games. Safe to say, somebody fucked up and if you’re not freaking out about this injury, you should be.
Who Gets The Blame?
To start off, whose to blame for this? To me, it’s a 3 way tie between the training staff, Brad Stevens, and Kemba himself. Overall, the training staff has done a horrible job this season. The Celtics have dealt with nagging injuries all year long including with Kemba Walker. The only one you can’t blame them for is Hayward’s broken hand back in November. But how did the training staff not see this issue before the All-Star Game? I won’t be shocked if this crew gets fired by the end of the year.
As for Brad and Kemba, they just ought to know better. Both aren’t new to this when it comes to managing injuries and they should have been on the same page going into the All-Star Game. As for the injury itself, the Celtics have constantly said they don’t expect this to be a long term issue. However, the Celtics do not have a good track record when it comes to managing injuries. Kevin Garnett, Isaiah Thomas, and Kyrie Irving all had injuries that weren’t initially serious. Turns out, all three of them had injuries that made them sit out for months.
This Doesn’t Look Great
I’m not saying the same thing is going to happen here. But you have to admit the Celtics do not have a good track record with diagnosing injuries. And the worst part about this injury is because it could have been easily avoided. With Boston in a dog fight with Toronto for the 2 seed, every game matters. Kemba Walker and the Celtics organization should have thought of that before the All-Star Game.
