The Clover Report: Week Twenty-Six
After hearing about the Kyrie Irving injury, it was time for the Celtics to move on and finish out the regular season. They had four left and nothing to play for. But games happened and we are here to recap them. The first one came at home against the Chicago Bulls. It was an up and down, fast paced game; but Boston pulled it out 111—104. Jaylen Brown had a fantastic game as he finished with a career high 32 points and hit 7 three pointers. Greg Monroe also had a great game as he notched a triple-double (19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists). Jabari Bird had the best game of his young career as he scored 15 points off the bench. With the win, the Celtics got their 54th of the year; which meant they surpassed last years’ total. Every year he’s been in the league, Brad Stevens has improved his win total. He’s been the one constant this year and I’m glad he’s going to be here for years to come.
Next up, the Celtics hosted the Atlanta Hawks. For most of the game, the Celtics were ahead. However, Atlanta outscored Boston in the 4th by 12 and won 112—106. It was a very balanced effort from Boston as 6 players scored double figures. Jayson Tatum led the way with 19 points on 8-12 from the floor. After the loss, the Celtics traveled to Washington to take on potential playoff opponent in the Wizards. Brown went off in the 1st quarter as he scored 21 points alone! But the rest of the game wasn’t as good as the first as the Wizards won 113—101. Brown finished with a total of 27 points. This game was important for the Wizards as they moved up to the 7th seed in the East.
For the final game of the week and of the season, the Celtics hosted the Brooklyn Nets. It was a matchup of benchwarmers and what else would you expect in game 82. Aron Baynes had a career night as he finished (not a typo) with 26 points and 14 rebounds. The Celtics won going away 110—97 and finish the 2018 season with a 55—27 record. Considering all of the injuries this season, it’s very impressive what the Celtics did. It’s on to the playoffs where they will meet the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
