Wendy’s Roasts the Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays were up 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth in Game 6 of the World Series. Starter Blake Snell was electic, to that point, he had allowed two hits, struck out nine and was dominate over 73 pitches.

Then the manager came walking out of the dugout. Rays manager Kevin Cash replaced Snell for Nick Anderson who wasn’t stellar in his previous six outings in the playoffs. The game changed in a blink of an eye and the Dodgers took a 2-1 lead and never looked back. Los Angeles won their first World Series in 32 years.

Since that game, the two franchises have gone in two separate directions. The Rays went on and traded Snell to the Padres in a blockbuster deal. They declined Charlie Morton’s $15 million option for 2021 and went on to sign with the Braves for the same money. Dodgers countered and signed National League Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer.

Fiery Tweets Ahead

There is the old saying, time heals all wounds. The Rays and their fan base moved on from the World Series loss and the Snell trade. However, the Rays social media department ended up seeing that wound re-open.

Wendy’s Twitter account is one of the best on the social media platform. In 2018, Wendy’s came up with #NationalRoastDay, “everybody’s favorite made up social media holiday,” and they would roast as many social media accounts possible.

The made up social media holiday went on a hiatus for one-year but came back with a vengeance on Thursday. The Rays social media team asked for Wendy’s to roast them and they did. Wendy’s hit the Rays social media harder than the Dodgers offense hit the Rays bullpen in Game 6.

You Know When it’s Real

Snell saw the roast and he decided to chime in after Wendy’s went for the jugular. Social media alike shared their reactions from Wendy’s ultimate roast of the Rays.

Back when Cash was hired he was asked about preparation and gut decisions. “We can’t stand the word ‘gut.’ You take gut thoughts out of the equation with the more prepared you are. If you’re having to make gut decisions… I guess we would look at it from the perspective of, ‘Did we prepare as much as we should have?’ Having said that, I get that your instincts and what your eyes are telling you… look, there are difficult decisions that arise in every single game,” said Cash.

The Rays will forever have to deal with the decision of Cash pulling Snell in the World Series. Tampa Bay might be taking a step back heading into 2021 with the subtractions to their rotation. The Rays have a history of coming out on top of how they build their teams.

Will the Rays join the Champa Bay party? Only time will tell, but until then, Cash will be looking to rebuild his image from the World Series loss. The roasted Rays social media department is left wondering, where’s the beef?
