We are just days away from Super Bowl LV. For the first time since the 2002-2003 season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play for the Lombardi. All eyes have been on the Bucs after quarterback Tom Brady signed with the team in the offseason after playing for 20 years in New England. Brady and company did not disappoint this year. This will be Brady’s tenth Super Bowl appearance. As for the rest of the team, it will be a first for majority of them.
A forgetful season opener
Yes, Tom Brady began his Bucs career against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. It did not go to plan at all. Brady made rookie mistakes that he would normally not make while he was in New England. Tom Brady looked lost at times during this game. In fact, this game was one of his weakest performances this season. Brady threw two interceptions which one of them was returned for a pick six. The New Orleans defense also got to Brady three times and caused discomfort in the pocket all game. The final score was 34-23. Brady and company were ready to move on and focus on week two.
An early winning streak
Tampa Bay got their first win in the second week of the season against the Carolina Panthers. Brady again didn’t look great but his running back, Leonard Fournette, did. Fournette rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on the day. The final score in the first win of the season was 31-17. After that, Tampa took care of Denver easily, which put them 2-1 on the year.
However, in week four, fans were treated to an early contender for game of the year. The Chargers went into Tampa and almost pulled off the upset. Tom Brady and rookie quarterback Justin Herbert put on a show for fans to enjoy. Justin Herbert threw a 53 yard pass to wide receiver Tyron Johnson to tie the game. The folowing drive, Brady throws an interception which was returned for 78 yards for a touchdown. After another touchdown and field goal LA was up 24-7. That’s when Brady went off. Brady threw four touchdowns to lead the Bucs in a comeback victory. The final in this one was 35-31.
Thursday night trouble
This graphic right here sent everyone into a frenzy. In a game where Tom Brady had a sideline explosion, the Bucs did not look good.
However, that wasn’t the main story. The main story was Tom Brady forgetting it was fourth down on the last possesion for Tampa. Brady instead of trying to gain just enough yards on fourth and five threw about a 20 yard pass down the field that was broken up. Brady thought it was third down which lead him to be confused as to why the Chicago offense came running on the field after. Tampa Bay lost 20-19 because of this.
Rematch with New Orleans
After another three game winning streak, the rematch with New Orleans was next. Brady and the Bucs looked to even the season series with New Orleans. But, that did not happen. Tom Brady, the GOAT, did not throw a touchdown in this game. Instead, he threw three interceptions. In fact, New Orleans was up 31-0 at the half. The final in this one was 38-3, this was one of the worst losses in Brady’s career. New Orleans swept Tampa in the regular season.
Super Bowl preview
The two Super Bowl teams met in the regular season… in Tampa. Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill had a historic first quarter, and gave Kansas City the lead early. Tyreek Hill had over 200 yards receiving in the first quarter. This was a tall task for Tampa Bay to over come. In the second half, they woke up and almost completed the comeback. Kansas City left Tampa with a win, but Brady and the Bucs haven’t forgot about it.
All they do is win
After thier bye week in week 13, Tampa Bay cranked it to another level and hasn’t lost. They finished the regular season blowing out Detroit, beating Atlanta twice once in blowout fashion, and beating Minnesota. In the playoffs they held off a comeback by the Washington Football team which set them up for round three against New Orleans.
Finally they did it
Tampa Bay once again had to play New Orleans. The Saints beat Tampa twice this year and it seemed like they just had their number. But this is the playoffs. In the playoffs, New Orleans forgets how to play football. Tom Brady does not. Brady and the Bucs went into New Orleans and took care of business winning 30-20. Finally, Tampa was able to overcome the mountain and beat New Orleans.
Tom Brady vs Aaron Rodgers. That was the matchup every football fan wanted in the Super Bowl. But instead, they got it in the NFC Championship. Football fans were ecstatic about this. Guess who dominated in this game? Tom Brady did. Despite the three interceptions, Brady took apart this Green Bay defense, especially Kevin King. Kevin King didn’t stand a chance against Brady and Brady just straight up bullied him. Green Bay almost completed the comeback, but Tampa Bay was too much for Green Bay to handle. They beat Rodgers and the Packers by a score of 31-26 and advanced to Super Bowl LV.
