Red Sox officially sign first round draft pick Marcelo Mayer
About a week and a half ago, the Boston Red Sox selected Marcelo Mayer with the 4th overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft. Now? It seems like Mayer will be starting to play in the Red Sox organization very soon. The Red Sox and Marcelo Mayer agreed to a deal worth a little less than seven million.

What Does Marcelo Mayer’s Signing with the Red Sox Mean for the Future?
It means that the Red Sox future is in very good hands on the left side of the infield. Mayer is only coming out of high school. Keep in mind, if this was going to be a big deal, the Red Sox probably would’ve skipped on Mayer. Now, 10 days after the MLB draft, the Red Sox have a deal in place. Could there be an opening for Xander Bogaerts to play elsewhere now? Of course! It’s bound to happen. But hopefully, Xander sticks around and could make a position switch if Mayer is the answer long-term at shortstop.

Mayer looks good with his Red Sox gear. The left-handed swing is smooth. Plus, he could unlock some raw power that we haven’t even seen yet. The hands look extremely smooth at shortstop, getting some work in with Xander Bogaerts. Mayer looks the part in a quick workout. Now, can he look the part on the field against the best of the best?
