Red Sox FINALLY send Franchy Cordero down to Worcester!

It was a long time and no, the boys aren’t back for this one. The Red Sox had a problem with outfielder Franchy Cordero. He wasn’t going to be around much longer. Well (for now), that problem is solved. After Wednesday night’s game against Atlanta, the Red Sox optioned Franchy Cordero down to Worcester.

Following Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves, the #RedSox optioned OF Franchy Cordero to Triple-A Worcester.

So now that Cordero is in Worcester, this means a few things.

With Cordero Down in Worcester, Colton Brewer is Back Up

This isn’t necessarily the best news to hear. The Red Sox are probably content with their decision to send Cordero down. But with Colton Brewer coming up, it doesn’t really make me excited. Brewer will be around to give the bullpen a fresh arm. But honestly, it isn’t going to make much of a difference. Colton Brewer is not going to be the difference maker for this bullpen. That will need to come from a different source.

With Cordero Down, Will Jarren Duran be Called Up Soon?

I wrote a few weeks ago about whether or not it’s time to call up Jarren Duran. Honestly, why not? He’s hitting exceptionally well down in Worcester and now for team USA. Cordero struggles just to put the ball in play. What am I missing here? Sure, Duran is getting everyday at bats in Worcester. But the Red Sox could use the speedy outfielder that can hit for power too. At this point, what is there to honestly lose with this decision? Worst case, he struggles and you send him back down to get his confidence back.

In Conclusion

Franchy has some things to figure out in Worcester. Hopefully, he figures it out so he’ll be a reliable outfield piece for the Red Sox moving forward. If not, the Andrew Benintendi trade just looks worse day by day. Time’s ticking for Franchy!
