Red Sox-Athletics series preview
The Red Sox continue on in their 2022 season with a three game series in Oakland against the Athletics. Keep in mind, this is the same Oakland Athletics that have one of the lowest payrolls in baseball. Why is this important? There is a pattern that follows suit with the Athletics. They have home grown talent that makes them somewhat competitive. Then when the time comes that their stars can get a big payday, they either leave or the A’s trade them away. It happened again this off-season with Matt Olson and Matt Chapman getting traded. Now? The A’s find themselves near the bottom of the American League West.

The Red Sox bats staying hot against the Athletics
The thing that has helped the Red Sox turn it around in May, heading into June, is the hitting finally picking up the slack. It’s not just Devers, Bogaerts, and J.D. Martinez doing all of the damage. Trevor Story continues to be an absolute problem at the plate for opposing pitchers. Guys like Christian Vazquez and Alex Verdugo are starting to find their swings again. They’re getting contributions from guys like Bobby Dalbec and Franchy Cordero lately. It’s exactly what the doctor ordered for this team. Keep this up in Oakland!
Continuing to play bad teams
These three games for the Red Sox are crucial. You just played the Orioles and the Reds. Those two teams are two of the worst in baseball. Now you have the Athletics that are just another bad baseball team. You need these wins before you get into the tougher part of your schedule. You need all of the wins you can get and the Athletics are a team you should take care of this weekend. Don’t play around and get another series win.
