Rangers sign K’Andre Miller to ELC
While most general managers are taking a break during the NHL’s pause, Jeff Gorton was busy signing his prized defensive prospect, K’Andre Miller, to his entry level contract (ELC). The Rangers and Miller came to terms on his ELC this past Friday. The former Wisconsin Badger just finished his second year in Madison, totaling 7 goals and 18 points in 36 games played. Miller also had a tremendous freshman campaign in which he had 5 goals and 17 assists.
The 22nd overall pick from the 2018 NHL Entry Draft was a part of the past two World Junior teams for the USA. During international play, Miller played 11 games and totaled 3 points. It is obvious that Miller will have a long and successful NHL career with the Blueshirts.
What to Expect
We should expect to see Miller join the Hartford Wolfpack, the Rangers AHL affiliate, when hockey resumes sometime soon (we hope). The 6’5 and 210lb defense is your prototypical NHL defenseman. He has a huge frame, excellent skating ability, and can make strong plays at his own blue line.
In today’s fast paced game, Miller can also skate with the elite, play the body well, and has long reach with his stick. However, his main weakness is that he is not the greatest puck moving defenseman, but on a team with Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba, and Tony DeAngelo, the Rangers do not need another offensive minded defenseman. Miller will be a part of the next great Rangers team, and he will be the anchor on the blue line for years to come. However, before we see him with the big club, he will dominate in the AHL as soon as hockey returns.
