This game is going to be a huge turning point in the season. I know it’s only week 4, but this really is a giant difference maker going forward. You could be sitting at 3-1 or 2-2, and there’s a big difference between those two records. They played a very tough team in Seattle 2 weeks ago, and played fantastic right down to the wire. However, you can’t really have more than one “moral victory” a season. This is a make or break game against a tough opponent.
This offense is going to have to fire on all cylinders and make the most of every opportunity they are given. The Chiefs offense can score at will, so if they are lucky enough to get a few turnovers, they have to result in only TDs. Josh needs to keep his offense on track and just pound on this defense with the run. Cam, Sony, and if Rex Burkhead can play like last week feed him too. That will force the Chiefs to being Tyran Mathieu into the box and give them a shot over the top.
McDaniels is also probably going to want to pull out his typical gimmick plays like he does against some of the best teams. I’m fully against this because it makes them look desperate. If they need to move the ball they just need to stick to the basics. James White being back will be a huge aid to this, and if they can get him going on screens and swing passes that will be huge. They need to set the Chiefs up so they can score in the red zone as well. They run the ball in so much with Cam in the red zone, that could set them up for some pop passes or direct snaps.
The defense is going to have to be in a bend but don’t break attitude. They should have high confidence coming off of a great performance last week, but the Chiefs are not the Raiders. A huge key will be to keep Kelce from getting comfortable. That means mixing up who’s covering him. JoeJuan is the perfect build for it, so he will be the main choice. J-Mac can keep up, Adrian Phillips could probably hang. Ja’Whaun Bentley could even bang him up a little bit to throw him off his game.
Gilmore typically locks up Sammy Watkins, and the speed of Jon Jones and JC Jackson should matchup well with Hill and Hardman. The Chiefs are going to need to find creative ways to beat this defense. They were almost built to play against this team exactly. The tough part will be making Mahomes uncomfortable, and the new weapon in Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Normally this might be a scheduled loss without Brady, but this is a must win to boost this teams confidence. this will be a shootout 41-39 Pats.
