Patriots trade for wide receiver DeVante Parker
We as New England Patriots fans have been wondering when the Patriots will make a move for that #1 wide receiver. We’ve been waiting…and waiting…and waiting. Now? We might have something here. The Patriots were hard at work Saturday afternoon and pulled off a rare in-division trade. The Patriots received veteran wide receiver DeVante Parker and a fifth round 2022 pick in exchange for a 2023 third round pick. So what does this move mean for the Patriots?
DeVante Parker could be a Potential #1 Receiver for the Patriots
DeVante Parker isn’t chop liver when it comes to NFL wide receivers. This is a guy that can stretch the field and make tough, contested catches. That’s something the Patriots need in 2022. He’s not the caliber of a guy like Davante Adams or Cooper Kupp. But he’s going into his age 29 season and has a reasonable contract for two more seasons. All the Patriots had to do was give up a 2023 third round pick to get a productive receiver when healthy? Win-win!

The expected move with Parker now in the fold is for N’Keal Harry to be either released or traded. This would make a ton of sense. Harry has been extremely underwhelming in his three seasons as a Patriot. With Parker, Jakobi Meyers, and Kendrick Bourne in the fold; I wouldn’t expect Harry to stick around much longer.
Also, keep an eye on Nelson Agholor. He’s on the second year of a two year contract he signed in the 2021 off-season. Who’s to say the Patriots wouldn’t surprise everyone and trade Agholor or release him into the open market?
The Patriots could get rid of Agholor and/or Harry to lessen the wide receiving core heading into 2022.
In Conclusion
DeVante Parker is a great add for the Patriots. Plus, they got another pick in this year’s draft out of the deal. It doesn’t hurt to have someone who played for one of your AFC East rivals the past seven seasons either! A solid move, but could there be more coming down the pipeline? Stay tuned Pats fans!
