Patriots Sign Former Jaguars WR Marqise Lee

It was announced today, via Adam Schefter, that the New England Patriots have come to a one-year agreement with former Jaguars wideout, Marqise Lee. Adding a WR to the mix just before the start of the 2020 NFL draft is something to watch.

Who is Marqise Lee?

The 28-year-old California native was a second-round selection by Jacksonville in 2014. Unfortunately for Lee, he was subsequently released by the Jags on April 20, 2020. Over the course of his career, Lee has started in 30 games, averaging 12.6 yards per reception. He has totaled 174 catches for 2,184 yards and 8 touchdowns. Lee spent the majority of the 2019 season on the sidelines. He was continuing to rehab an ACL injury sustained in the year prior. Marqise Lee appeared in 6 games in 2019 before ending up on the injured reserve in October after he sustained a shoulder injury.

Why This Helps The Patriots?

The Patriots didn’t have the most consistent group of wide receivers throughout the 2019 season. The receivers struggled to create separation leading to a lot of batted passes and dropped balls. Lee joins the likes of Julian Edelman and Mohamed Sanu Sr, seasoned vets on the field, and some younger players with Jakobi Meyers and N’Keal Harry. Lee has the potential to be a great addition to New England if he’s able to stay on the field and healthy.
