Patriots Release Kicker Nick Folk, Sign Kicker Kai Forbath
The Patriots are now on their fourth kicker of the season. No, that is not a misprint. The New England Patriots today released kicker Nick Folk after having an appendectomy. They proceeded to sign Kai Forbath, who last kicked in the NFL in 2018 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The #Patriots announced they have released K Nick Folk and signed K Kai Forbath. Folk had an appendectomy Thursday and could return when healthy… unless Forbath seizes the job and doesn’t relinquish it.

This is a prototypical Patriots move right here. Release a guy who is getting his appendix removed the day after the actual surgery. But hey, business is business. Like Rapoport says in his tweet, Folk could return when healthy unless Forbath outright outplays him.
Kai Forbath’s Past
Forbath is 32 years old and has been in the NFL since 2012. He started out with the Redskins for three seasons before going to New Orleans for half a season. He spent 2016 and 2017 with Minnesota before kicking for the Jaguars in 2018. He has a career field goal percentage of 85.7% while extra points stand at an even 94%. It’s safe to say that he has been dependable throughout his NFL career. Now the question is: can that continue in New England?
In Conclusion
It is what it is in the business of professional sports. The Patriots need a kicker for Sunday and Forbath is their man. Let’s see if he can handle the pressure of making a big kick in a Patriots uniform. It just might happen on Sunday night. It’s time to win a football game!
