Patriots Draft Days 2 and 3: Potential Targets

The Pats have a lot of picks post 2nd round. There’s really no predicting what they’re going to do, especially since Bill always picks based on best available, and not always in a position of need. He always has calculated picks that nobody sees coming, and recently he’s struck out big time in the middle rounds. Here are a few middle to late round guys they might take a look at.

KJ Hamler: WR Penn State

NFL draft: Eagles, KJ Hamler of Penn State make sense together ...

This is not typically the type of receiver the Patriots pick, but he would fit great for the future. He is a smaller receiver, but not your typical slot type. He’s a burner and can stretch the field from the slot position, and would be a great counter to N’Keal Harry’s physical ability for years to come.

Antonio Gandy-Golden: WR Liberty

2020 NFL Draft: Don't sleep on Liberty WR Antonio Gandy-Golden | PFN

Gandy-Golden is a big physical specimen from a small school. He’s 6’4″ and 225, but also runs a 4.6 40 yard dash. Even though he didn’t play against the toughest competition, he has all the tools to create separation from pro corners. As a rookie he might catch 3rd and 4th string corners and make them wish they doubled him. Another guy that would be an absolute force when paired with Harry and Edelman.

Markus Bailey: LB Purdue

NFL Draft: Will Markus Bailey Hear His Name? - Hammer and Rails

Bailey is a great instinctual linebacker. He makes up for a lack of athletic ability with his high motor and football IQ. That’s exactly the type of guy Belichick loves in his defense. They lost a lot at linebacker, and he can be trusted to run the defense after guys like Hightower and McCourty retire.

Tyshun Render: DE Middle Tennessee

Patriots' Bill Belichick visited MTSU to see Tyshun Render

For Bill to skip the combine for this guy, he must be something special. His stats don’t stand out, with only 5 sacks combined in his last 2 seasons. He might even be a guy Bill snags post draft, but he might secure him in the 7th if he really likes him.

James Morgan: QB FIU

Chicago Bears Draft Prospect: Quarterback James Morgan

The Pats have been linked to this player a couple of times now. He is a smart QB that can spin it. He fits the ball in tight spots and he’s not afraid to take a hit. Who knowns if they draft a QB, but this guy seems like someone they like.

Adam Trautman: TE Dayton

2020 NFL Draft: Ravens Seven-Round Mock 2.0 - PressBoxOnline.com

Trautman is another guy that played against small school competition, but he has legit talent. He breaks well at the top of his routes and he is a legit playmaker. He’s 6’5″ and might be just the guy they need to complete this offense going forward. Not many guys as big as him can move as well as he does, and he does not have the injury history that Gronk did.

Thaddeus Moss: TE LSU

National championship 2020: LSU's Thaddeus Moss, son of Randy Moss ...

I just had to throw Randy Moss’ son on this list. He is a very raw talent, but nonetheless has Moss talent within him. They could draft these two tight ends to be the offense they wanted with Gronk and Hernandez, but these guys don’t have issues.

Rodrigo Blankenship: K GeorgiaMeet Rodrigo Blankenship, the best kicker in the 2020 NFL draft

We all know the Pats need a QB for the first time in a long time, but they have also only had 2 kickers since 1996. Blankenship is a stud, and its not often you get a kicker straight out of college with good range. Bring the Hot Rod into Foxborough.
