Patriots 53 Man Roster Prediction

With the season around the corner and training camp now fully in session, let’s have some fun! Let’s make a prediction of the Patriots 53 man roster come week one.

Offense:

QB: Mac Jones, Cam Newton

RB: Damien Harris, James White, Rhamondre Stevenson, Brandon Bolden, Jakob Johnson (FB)

WR: Nelson Agholor, Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski, Isaiah Zuber, Matthew Slater

TE: Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith, Dalton Keene, Devin Asiasi

T: Trent Brown, Michael Onwenu, Isiah Wynn, Yodny Cajuste

G: Shaq Mason, Justin Herron

C: David Andrews, Ted Karras

The QB position is the one that everyone has their eyes on this season. The starting role is still up in the air, but only makes sense if they keep both Mac and Cam to give them each chances. Unless Cam falls off a cliff and Hoyer takes the backup role, and Stidham seems like his time is up.

Sony Michel’s time is also up as we leave him off of the final roster and Damien Harris becomes the main bellcow. Isaiah Zuber sneaks his way into the receiver room because he seems to be a favorite of Bill over the past couple seasons. They keep 4 tight ends on the roster because as good as Henry and Smith are, they’ve both had recent injury issues. They also drafted Asiasi and Keene last year for a reason and they need to see what they are made of. The addition of Trent Brown will make it so Onwenu and Wynn can be versatile to and play the right tackle and guard spots.

Defense:

DL: Lawrence Guy, Davon Godchaux, Henry Anderson, Deatrich Wise, Christian Barmore, Byron Cowart

Edge Rusher: Matt Judon, Chase Winovich, Josh Uche, Anfrenee Jennings

LB: Dont’a Hightower, Kyle Van Noy, Ja’Whuan Bentley, Terez Hall, Brandon King

CB: Stephon Gilmore, JC Jackson, Jonathan Jones, JoeJuan Williams, Myles Bryant

S: Devin McCourty, Adrian Phillips, Kyle Dugger, Jalen Mills, Cody Davis

The list of defensive lineman gets me excited just reading it. That position is absolutely stacked this year, and Wise is really going to have to fight for some playing time. There’s also a lot of talent on the edge with the addition of Judon, and it’s time for one of the young guns to step up and fill the role. The linebackers are versatile, Hightower and KVN can move all around, and Bentley and Hall are more traditional inside guys. The defensive backfield is yet again one of the most talented in the league, with 3 very legitimate cornerbacks. Jalen Mills might be here to be the next D-Mac, and Phillips and Dugger are heavy hitters that can fill the Pat Chung role.

Special Teams:

K: Nick Folk

P: Jake Bailey

LS: Joe Cardona

Patriots 2020 player profile and outlook: P Jake Bailey

The special teams players on this team don’t change very often, and that seems to be a recipe for success. Guys like Brandon Bolden, Slater, Cody Davis and Brandon King have been predominant special teamers that are also most likely going to stick around. Gunner Olszewski will most likely retain is return specialist role.
