NBA 2K is Trash, So Why do People Still Buy It?

The first week of September is a glorious time.  School’s back in session, both college and professional football is back, Fall is just around the corner, and my gambling addiction returns.  However, as of recent, pop culture, video games, and basketball all come together to release a fan favorite among video games — NBA 2k.

Last Friday, Sept. 6, was #2KDay or at least that’s what Twitter calls it.  It’s that time of year where your girlfriend complains more than usual that you’re spending too much time playing Xbox or my favorite argument of “I can’t pause online games.”  September 6 is the beginning of making your MyPlayer a full-time job to reach that illustrious 99 overall, or for weekend nights to no longer mean going out for a drink or two or seven.  Instead Friday’s and Saturday’s are for you and your boys to wonder down to your local MyPark and have yourself a competitive game of 5-on-5 consisting of mostly 360 dunks and missed 15-footers.

Sports games are a one of a kind experience.  I have had my fair sure of crazy Madden, 2K, and FIFA games over the years.  I have broken many controllers and have said some unthinkable things to a virtual player, but hey it’s all about the fun, right?  Now what I am about to say might cause an outrage, but NBA 2K is trash.

What’s nuts is that it’s taken 20 shitty games for fans to finally realize how much they get screwed by the developers.  I haven’t bought an NBA 2k since 2016.  Last one I played was NBA 2K18, and let me tell you the game play and mechanics don’t get better, but instead get worse.  2K’s rivals are Madden and FIFA, and both games have regressed as well, but at least they try new things and give explanations and try to make an overall better gaming experience to its fans.

2K20 is nothing short of a disaster, and Twitter’s reaction is hilarious.  Here’s the #2K20 Twitter link:

If you keep scrolling you find some pretty hilarious replies, and overall a good laugh.  From what I have seen, the game was pretty much unfinished, full of bugs, and once again the 2K servers are the worst in gaming.  I refuse to buy another 2K until they fix the necessary problems, like all the ones I just named.  But instead they make it a lot harder to score and constantly change the shooting meter so they don’t get accused of taking the previous 2K and just updating rosters, but that’s actually what it is.  My guess is that people buy 2K every year because they are genuinely basketball fans or because they want to create themselves as an NBA player.  But the game sucks.

I have seen people calling 2k20, “2k19.5” which is wicked funny because it’s true.  Until the developers give us a fresh game, I wouldn’t waste $60 on this piece of shit.  Instead let’s just stick out Fortnite until October when we get Call of Duty.  But if you’re craving a sports game just go to Madden, 2K needs to be taken out on trash day.

The earlier games were good. Especially 2k3.

As soon as you said “lets just stick out Fortnite” you lost your credibility as a decent game reviewer, or as a decent human being. 2K is trash but reccomending to play an even more trashier game is disgusting.

    • This guy is correct. Fortnite is for morons. You probably bought 2k20, so you’re just another hypocrite.

absobloodylutely disastrous sports game i’ve ever played. player has all 99 stats but he couldn’t move freely at all. every time i pushed the keyboard but it didn’t work simultaneously. this disaster always respond late and fall a step behind!! besides, I made a basket interference, referee called ‘blocked shot’. what amazing game. This disaster must not exist!!

  • Bought 2k20 but I will not buy another. It’s almost time for 22 and I’m just finishing out 2k20. I had a few goals when starting like I wanted to own every card, beat all the challenges, and rank up every evo card. I accomplished none of that even though I put in upwards of 6 hours a day. I’m no money spent cause you can see the cash grab early on and it’s disgusting. I ranked and sold evo cards to get by. The more the game goes on the more you can see the game is working against you to stall your goals and keep you spending money. You can see the center who you need to get rebounds step away from a prime position to gain a rebound and the other team gets it, just constant sabotege from you own players. Nevermind that you need him to rank up because it’s crunch time on the game ending and you’ll have to use 4 amy players for the grizzlies 10 player challege because there is almost no card selection of players for the grizzly team but cpu PDs and Diamonds gonna play like they’re GOATs while you pass constant turnovers in a direction opposite the direction you directed towards. Most these teams don’t even have an opal card but I have several and goat magic and kareem still getting dunked on by fucking diamonds.
I use to get on 2kgamer till I found out it’s just a bunch of 2k employees. Everything you say on there, they will use. I made the mistake of mentioning how much mt I made per game and the next day I was making 400 mt less per game. I’ve mentioned this bug where if you challenge a foul and win the challenge you do a jump ball but you don’t get to see the tipoff instead when you need to be able to see what’s going on the camera zooms in on the coach and they won’t fix it but say “who’s buying all these bill walton’s to keep this game going” and they immediately stop buying him.
They stopped buying him from me because I pointed out that the AH is fixed and pointed toward that as the example. Baron davis sells here and there 4 above 500k mt so why is he ever for sell? If I have him then he’s sold or I’m satisfied and keep him. He should never sell at this point when there are no packs to open for him. People think it’s these farmers that cause all these problems but really the farmers are a 2k team. If 2k wanted to stop farming then they would but instead they make a site like 2kgamer and allow mt sales on there. They allow glitches in a game and cherry pick who they wanna ban for using it instead of banning no one and fixing their shit. They’ll move you from one AH to another because the cards you buy and sell affect other players who spend cash. They don’t want you buying his card because now he has the funds to grab 1 card closer to his last card.
What I’ve gathered from 2k is it’s gonna play like a dream when you 1st start but then they’re gonna flick the FU button and your in for stress filled time. You will be worse off for playing this game because it is designed to stress you out so you spend in hopes of no longer being stressed. I’m pissed I accomplished 0 of my goals but so happy it’s almost over for me with 2k20. It’s a cash grab from a greedy company which has made plenty from its community but doesn’t give back, is never satisfied, and would rather use tricks and lies to sell you a game instead of improving the game. It’s a waste of money to buy a problem and be sold a solution. Save your money, save your mental health and if you have kids tell them no for the same reasons.

  • The AI in these games is terrible, the game glitches the user player where the player slows down during plays moves about the court clumsily while guarding, and takes terrible shots to often even though the player has excellent shot attributes just an overall subpar game will never again buy another 2K game.

  • I got 2k21 for free… and it just plain doesn’t work. At all. It crashes on PC every time I try to play.
