It has been a disastrous season for Royals power hitting outfielder Jorge Soler. The right fielder hasn’t been able to get consistent at-bats together. So could we see Jorge Soler in a trade?
This season, Soler is hitting a putrid .190 with 11 home runs and 34 RBIs. His slash line is nothing to be desired either, he has a .287 on-base percentage, .354 slugging percentage and .641 OPS.
For weeks, if not all season long, Royals fans have been wondering why Soler has remained in the lineup?
Soler Getting… Hot?
Soler’s power potential is tantalizing and if he were to get hot, which is a big if, he can mash. In his last 16 at-bats, Soler is hitting .312 with five hits, four of them for home runs.
He is coming off a two homer game on Sunday night against the Tigers. Soler would go three-for-four, crushing both his dingers off Tigers’ starter Tarik Skubal.

It was his his first two-homer game since August 8, 2020.
Even though he’s swinging a “hotter” bat through his last 16 at-bats, the sample size isn’t enough to warrant keeping him in Kansas City any longer.
Soler has struggled to get the barrel of his bat on the baseball. He’s struggled defensively in the outfield. Fact of the matter, Soler is not the same player who hit 48 home runs back in 2019.
I’m willing to bet that if the Royals could find a dance partner and trade Jorge Soler, fans would drive him to the airport in a heartbeat.
With the trade deadline on Friday, the Royals could be hoping, hell down right praying Soler gets hot.
If he does, maybe they can ship him out to a team desperate for power. What team is that desperate for Soler’s power potential?
A team not in contention like the Texas Rangers could benefit from Soler.
Hear me out.
The Rangers will likely trade Joey Gallo before Friday’s deadline. The San Diego Padres are hot on the trails for Gallo after acquiring Adam Frazier from the Pirates on Sunday.
Once Gallo’s bat comes out of the lineup, the Rangers have very little power potential.
Texas is trying to sign Gallo to an extension. That’s their preference as they lead up to Friday’s deadline. The Rangers still have a year and a half remaining of control over Gallo.
The Royals would rather try and trade Soler than just DFA him and get nothing in return. Texas wouldn’t have to necessarily give up something big in return. Soler can become free agent at the end of the season. Which could deter the Rangers from adding him.
Texas is in the midst of a rebuild but it would be egregious to run a lineup out daily with no power potential. Who knows, maybe he gets hot in Texas and finishes strong under no pressure and he re-signs long term?
One of team that could be a destination for Soler is the Giants. Sometimes players just benefit from a change of scenery. Soler could be a small bet for the Giants.
San Francisco is battling with the Dodgers in the NL West. The Giants have also been connected to Gallo but Soler could be their target if they can’t land the All-Star.
Plus, the Giants have been connected to Royals lefty Danny Duffy. The Giants are looking to upgrade their bats, Alex Dickerson and Austin Slater have been inconsistent.
I would assume the Mariners Mitch Haniger gets a look first, but Seattle looks like a buyer.
Soler might be in the midst of a horrendous season. However, if he can put together some consistent at-bats this week, a general manager may pounce.
The Royals will be looking to trading off some pieces with the hopes of rebounding for next season and beyond.
Kansas City is winners of five in a row, despite that, general manage Dayton Moore should look to sell on Soler. Trading Soler would make the Royals fan base happy because he’s been an eye sore all season long.
They have trade options and a team who misses out on Gallo and others could turn to Soler and the Royals. Jorge Soler is a low risk/high reward lottery ticket at the trade deadline.
