I know what you must be thinking, Diego why are you writing this article twice?
Listen, last week my fellow Manchester United fans from across the pond felt they needed to bring chaos, ok? Along with that chaos, while my article went out, minutes later the game was in question and then an hour later, postponed! If that isn’t just bad luck all together, I don’t know what else is from a journalist stand point.
Either way! It is now a week later and here we are with another chance at making this matchup happen. While yes, we found out who the English Premier League Champions are, we still have plenty of football to be played, so let’s enjoy it and get to it!
The Red Devils return to Old Trafford for a second time this week after a disappointing loss to the Leicester City Foxes, allowing Manchester City to secure the EPL Title. The return also comes as protests last week turned ugly, forcing player safety concerns to postpone this matchup.
For United, this game is an opportunity for the team to bounce back and re-focus. Yes, a loss to Leicester City at home is never easy, especially when handing the title to your city rivals. However, Manchester United have a tall task on hand in the next 3 weeks as the try to secure 2nd place in the EPL and then are due to compete in the UEFA Europa League final against a tough Spanish side in Villareal.
In addition, history has it that Manchester United have lost just one of their last 15 home games against Liverpool in all competitions, running with an unbeaten streak of 8 games since losing 3-0 to Liverpool in March of 2014. May I also add, this would be the first in 3 seasons, where United would land ahead of the Merseyside arch-rivals for the first time! There is just a lot of positive things going for United, and a perfect opportunity to keep it going.
Expect the Manchester side to come out with the following:
Dean Henderson (GK), Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Bailly, Shaw (Defense). McTominay, Fred, Pogba (Midfield). Greenwood, Fernandes and Rashford (Forward). 4-2-3-1 formation.
Tonight is an important and a must-win situation for Liverpool as they fight for a top 4 finish. While a place in the top four remains within reach, there are several concerns that amount to the possibility of that not happening for the Merseyside club.
Tonight’s possible squad for Liverpool, feature several key players that could cost the opportunity for Liverpool to climb into top four, to truly be out of the picture. The likes of Ozan Kabak, James Milner, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson and Ben Davies, are all concerns that will likely display a weak defensive game against a deep offensive attack that United poses.
Liverpool will truly be depending on how tonight’s attacking game develops. It will be important for Klopp and his team to have the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane show why they are a force to be reckoned with if they truly want a top-four finish. Klopp’s boys are just 7 points behind arch-rival Chelsea and there are 3 games left for the Merseyside club who will be forced to win all and hope Chelsea loses their last 2 matches. It is do or die time for Liverpool.
Expect the Merseyside club to come out with a 4-3-3 formation made up with the following players:
Alisson Becker (GK). Trent Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Williams, Robertson (Defense). Thiago, Fabinho, Wijnaldum (Midfield). Salah, Jota, and Mane (Forward).
There is a saying in the game of football and in life that goes something like this “There is nothing more dangerous than one who has nothing to lose after losing it all” In this instance, I feel that is the saying for Manchester United. While they have lost the opportunity to fight till the end and keep City out of the Premier League title, they also lost in stupid fashion the chances to compete for Champions League glory this year, this is exactly where they can be dangerous.
As I mentioned earlier, this would be the first time in 3 seasons where United finish ahead of Liverpool. Ole is a stingy coach that can easily be a pest in anyone’s way at the least predictable moment and this could be that again for Solskjaer. After all, the name of the “Babyface Killer” wasn’t given to him for no reason.
Unfortunately, this is a game where Liverpool is coming to a difficult field to begin with, adding the many injuries they are facing and a team running on fumes? The overall picture just doesn’t paint well for the Merseyside team. At best, this game is a tied game (1-1) type of game.
My prediction is a 2-1 win for United.
