Johnny Manziel to get First CFL Action Friday

The moment you’ve all been waiting for. Johnny Manziel is back and playing football.

First and foremost I’d like to say how great it is that Manziel is healthy and back on the field. There was a point in time where I wouldn’t have been shocked to wake up and find out he was found dead in a ditch the night before. But it appears Manziel has put the life of drugs and partying behind him, so I just wanted to give him a quick shoutout for turning his life around.

Now on to football. I doubt Johnny Manziel will grace the field of an NFL stadium ever again. There are too many question marks both on and off the field for teams to be jumping at the opportunity to get him on there team. Thats evident by the fact that Manziel is in the CFL right now.

Manziel has not yet played a minute in the Canadian Football League, but Friday that all changes. Manziel is expected to be under center for the Montreal Alouettes August 3rd as they play host to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Johnny Football hasn’t been in a real game since he was playing for the Cleveland Browns, so it is tough to predict what he will do this week. What makes it even harder is that I have no idea who any of these Canadian Football League players are.

I don’t religiously follow the CFL like the NFL just like fans of the MLB don’t dive deep into independent ball. But what I do know is that the Alouettes are terrible. Montreal went 3-15 last season, and have started out with a blazing 1-5 record in 2018. Manziel won’t be getting any favors when he suits up.

The Alouttes have the worst offense AND the worst defense in the league when you look at the stats. They have given up the most sacks, 23, in the CFL this year so vintage Manziel could be on display. All I’m saying is don’t be surprised to see highlights of him running for his life on Sportscenter Saturday morning.

Like I said what we get out of Manziel is a mystery. He hasn’t played in forever and has had limited time with the Alouttes. How well does he even know the playbook?

Anyway, it’s exciting to see him back out on the football field. It’ll be interesting to see where his career goes moving forward if he finds the success he’s looking for in Canada.
