It’s getting “Rough N’ Rowdy” between Dave Portnoy and Jose Canseco

It’s been a few days since Barstool Sports “Rough N’ Rowdy” 13 that featured the main event between Jose Canseco and intern Billy Football. The retired outfielder was knocked to the canvas on Friday night within 10 seconds. Prompting ridicule from Barstool Sports and followers on social media. However, Canseco may have lost in the ring, but reportedly his bank account got the win.

Following the fight, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took to Twitter and tweeted about Canseco’s payday from the event. There was speculation that Canseco took a dive that resulted in the quick loss to the Barstool intern. Fans all across social media began to say that the fight was fixed and demanded refunds for the fight.

Barstool Sportsbook negated any wagers put on Canseco and in addition, also paying off the winning bets placed on Billy Football. Portnoy claimed that the PPV fight allegedly “shattered” buy rate numbers.

Canseco Ends His Silence

Canseco had been silent for a few days following his loss at “Rough N’ Rowdy” but he finally broke that silence on Monday night. He responded to the tweet regarding his fight purse and the accusations he took a dive.

He would follow that tweet with, “You and your Barstool minions need to put down the marijuana and focus on your failing business #CrumblingEmpire”.

Despite all the jabs Canseco is taking on Twitter, Portnoy only responded once by saying “weird”. That was in reference to Canseco’s chowder tweet.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Canseco was accused of taking a dive. Back in 2011, Canseco was to fight in Florida but instead had his twin brother step in his place.

The Judge’s Decision

In conclusion, the Portnoy and Canseco feud will likely escalate even further on Twitter. Canseco can’t seem to help himself by taking cheap shots at Portnoy, Barstool or Stoolies.

As this plays out in front of everyone’s eyes on social media, it will be fun to see where this ultimately leads. It’s highly unlikely that Barstool will work with Canseco again after the alleged “dive” incident.

Furthermore, Portnoy has already stated he no longer feels bad for Canseco. It’s highly unlikely no matter the publicity he will want to give Canseco any income.

Canseco ultimately did his job for this fight. Barstool was able to land a lightning rod personality who hyped the fight and it sold PPV shares.

Above all, Billy Football overwhelmed Canseco right from the opening bell and knocked him to the canvas. Canseco went into this fight like a modern day Thunderlips, but Billy Football was ready.

Like the great Rocky Balboa once said, “To beat me, he’s going to have to kill me. He’s gonna have to have the heart to stand in front of me and to do that, he’s got to be willing to die himself.”
