Imagine MacKinnon and Marchand on the Same Line
Last week, the NHL released their First and Second All-Star Team. With little surprise, three Boston Bruins players made the All-Star Teams. The results are as followed:
Bruins Dominate the All-Star Teams
First Team:
David Pastrnak (RW) – Leon Draisaitl (C) – Artemi Panarin (LW)
John Carlson (D) – Romi Josi (D)
Connor Hellebuyck (G)
Second Team:
Nikita Kucherov (RW) – Nathan MacKinnon (C) – Brad Marchand (LW)
Victor Hedman (D) – Alex Pietrangelo (D)
Tuukka Rask (G)
MacKinnon’s Instagram Comments
Colorado Avalanche’s Nathan MacKinnon was quick to recognize he and Brad Marchand would be on the same line. He commented on the NHL’s Instagram page tagging Marchand, “@bmarch63 yoooo 63 and 29 together ain’t losing bro”.
That being said, fans rushed to reply to MacKinnon’s comment saying that they would love to see the duo play together. Some fans even went as far as to say they would purchase a MacKinnon jersey if he ever came to Boston. Imagine MacKinnon and Marchand on the same line? That would be impressive.
A Successful Season for Both Forwards
Although shortened due to COVID-19, both players had a phenomenal 2019-2020 season. Marchand played his second-best season with 87 points (28G, 59A). While MacKinnon finished the season with 93 points (35G, 58A). The playmakers are significant to the success of both their teams and dominate their ice times.
During the postseason, Marchand racked up 12 points (7G, 5A) in 13 games and MacKinnon had 25 points (9G, 16A) in 15 games.
An Unusual Friendship
You must be thinking this is an interesting friendship, eh? Back in 2018, Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, and Brad Marchand all skated together during the offseason in their hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ever since then, they have been training together during the offseason.
On a Spittin’ Chiclets podcast in 2019, MacKinnon was asked how it was to skate with Marchand. He said, “Marchy is like exactly how you think,” MacKinnon said. “The whole time he’s just chirping everybody on the ice, like just carving everybody. If you lose the puck, he’s all over you. If he snipes, he’s showing everybody. But he’s an awesome guy, I love being around Marchy, he’s an awesome guy.”
The Reality
Unfortunately, the reality is that we will probably never see MacKinnon and Marchand on the same line, but hey, a fan can dream! However, who knows… I heard Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney has been busy on the phone lately.
